Gaming Influence: Thoughts - PlayStation State of Play 3/9/22

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence which is a reboot of the same name that I created back in WrestleCorp. However, not only will I be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series, but also video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I will be discussing the PlayStation State of Play that happened on March 9, 2022.

Before I start, not every game that was shown in this presentation will be talked about as I will mainly talk about the games that I care and am interested on. If the games that you care and are interested don't show up here, don't take it personally, have nothing against the games, but they're just not for me or it's just I don't have much to say about them expect cool. However, if you are happy with the games that you care and are interested on that I'm not or have nothing to say about it, good for you and I'm happy for you.

Anyway, let's get started!

Now before I talk about the State of Play, there are maybe some people out there wondering, what is a State of Play? A State of Play is similar to a Nintendo Direct where it's a digital presentation that shows what games will be coming to PlayStation consoles. For this State of Play, this was mainly focused on games coming to PS4 and PS5 with a showcase of Japanese publishers.

Anyway, let's get started!

Exoprimal is a third-person survival horror shooter developed by Capcom as it is a new IP from Capcom which will be released on PS4 and PS5 in 2023.

Alright, I'll admit. When I first saw the dinosaurs and saw it was Capcom, I immediately thought it was Dino Crisis for a moment. However, after they show the mech soldiers, I knew it wasn't Dino Crisis as it's a new IP from Capcom involving dinosaurs so that's cool. Although, I would love a new Dino Crisis game, but at least Exoprimal doesn't look bad, just need to see more of it/ Hopefully, we'll get to see more of it in the future as it will be released in 2023.

GhostWire: Tokyo is an action-adventure game developed by Tango Gameworks and published by Bethesda Softworks as it is set to be released on March 22, 2022, on PS5.

When I first saw the gameplay of this game back in the PlayStation Showcase in September 2021, it reminded me a lot of a combination of BioShock and Skyrim into one being developed by a Japanese studio which is freaking cool. The story seems very interesting too and I'm intrigued on how it will turn out. Looking forward to the game when it releases on March 22, 2022.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is an action role-playing game developed by Team Ninja and is published by Square Enix where the game is about the origin of the first Final Fantasy game. There’s also new demo available for the game right now and the full game is set to be released on PS4 and PS5 on March 18, 2022.

When I first saw this game back at E3 2021 for the Square Enix Presents, I was really intrigued by it as it is a hack-and-slash game taking place in the events before the first Final Fantasy is pretty cool. Though, when I played the demo for it back then, it felt a bit rough. However, with the new demo that they have, it definitely improved a lot so more interested in the game more than ever so we'll see how the game turns out. Looking forward to playing it on March 18, 2022.

Forspoken is an action role-playing game developed by Luminous Productions and published by Square Enix as the game is set to be released on PS5 on October 11, 2022.

When I first saw this game back at the PS5 Showcase in June 2020 as Project Athia, the first thing that came into my mind was this, "This looks to be a Western Final Fantasy game,". To this day, I still think it's like a Western Final Fantasy and it looks incredible. The game was originally supposed to be released in May 24, 2022, but now got delayed to October 11, 2002. That's fine by me as long as the game is great. I'm looking forward to this one.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection is a collection of thirteen classic Teenage Mutant Turtles games which is set to be released later this year on PS4 and PS5.

Holy crap! Okay, I didn't see this coming at all, but dang, this is something to keep us accompany until Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge comes out. The collection will contain the TMNT games from the arcade, NES, SNES, Genesis, and Game Boy all in one. Love it and I'm very surprised that Konami is supporting this. Well, Konami better do this right or else... Either way, looking forward to this and I can't wait.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R is a remaster of the original game that released on PS3 as it has been improved with enhance graphics and additional characters as the game is set to be released early fall of this year on PS4 and PS5.

Okay, wow! I didn't expect to see a return of this game back at all, but this is pretty cool. Not only does the game has enhanced graphics, but will also have more characters in the game that wasn't in the original so that's a plus. Granted, would love a new game for this, but I'm definitely fine with a remaster of this game with a hope of a new game in the future. Until then, looking forward to this and if you haven't already, read/watch the manga/anime. It's pretty good.

Trek to Yomi is a black and white side scrolling action game developed by Leonard Menchiari and Flying Wild Hog and published by Devolver Digital as it's set to be released on PS4 and PS5 in Spring 2022.

Oh my god, this game looks amazing! It's like watching a classic black-and-white Japanese film, but you're actually playing it. That's awesome. Not only that, they also got some pretty good actors in there in that game which is also impressive. I definitely have an eye on this game as it's coming out this spring and I'm looking forward to it.

Returnal: Ascension is a new update for the game that will feature co-op and a survival mode as it's set to be released on March 22, 2022.

Oh wow! We got a new update for Returnal called Ascension where you get co-op and a survival mode, neat! This is one my favorite games from last year so nice to see that it's getting new content. Definitely very interested in that survival mode as that should be a lot of fun, but also frustrating too. Looking forward to this expansion when it comes out on March 22, 2022.

The DioField Chronicle is a tactical strategy role-playing game developed by Square Enix as it's set to be released later this year on PS4 and PS5.

Dang, I don't know about you, but this actually looks pretty good and I'm glad to see that Square Enix is making more tactical strategy games again which is great. So far, it looks to be a combination of Fire Emblem and Triangle Strategy into one. Really liking it and hope to see more of it as it's planned to be released later this year. More tactical strategy games from Square Enix, the better.

Valkyrie Elysium is the latest game in the Valkyrie Profile series developed by Square Enix as it's set to be released later this year on PS4 and PS5.

Oh wow, I didn't expect a return of this series. That's quite surprising. Besides the mobile game which was Japan exclusive, Valkyrie Anatomia: The Origin in 2016, Valkyrie Profile series didn't have a new console game since Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume back on the Nintendo DS in 2009 so it's been thirteen years since the last Valkyrie Profile game which is insane. The series has definitely evolved over the years and it's starting to look like an action role-playing game as the gameplay looks fine, but definitely needs some polish. Granted, they still have some time before the game releases as it's planned to be released this year so we'll see how the final product will be once it's released. However, glad to see the Valkyrie Profile series back and hope this game turns out well.

Overall, this was a solid State of Play from PlayStation. Granted, nothing major here and I was expecting more, but it had some nice surprises with more new footage of games we already knew about so it did what it needed to do. Plus, it also highlighted the Japanese games pretty well I feel like. Although, I was hoping for more info on Final Fantasy XVI here, but we'll probably get that at E3/Summer Game Fest at this point which I'm looking forward to it. Other than that, solid, but nothing mind-blowing here.
