Gaming Influence: Thoughts - PlayStation Showcase 2023

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence, a reboot of the same name I created in WrestleCorp. However, not only will I be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series, but also video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll be giving my thoughts on the PlayStation Showcase that happened on May 24, 2023.

Before I start, not every game that was shown in this presentation will be talked about as I will mainly talk about games that I care about and am interested in. If the games you care about and are interested in don't show up here, don't take it personally, have nothing against the games, but they're not just for me or it's just that I don't have much to say about them except cool. However, if you are happy with the games that you care about and are interested in that I'm not or nothing to say about it, good for you and I'm happy for you.

Anyway, let's get started!

This edition of PlayStation Showcase, it will cover first-party, third-party, and indie games that will come out on PS5 and PS VR2 in the future.

Let's get to it!

Immortals of Aveum is a first-person magic shooter developed by Ascendant Studios and published by Electronic Arts. It will be released on PS5 on July 20, 2023.

This game looks pretty cool with its aesthetic environments, intriguing story, and well-designed characters. The gameplay also looks sick with the magic spells in first-person which is a very nice touch. This game has the potential to be something special and I'm interested to see how this game will turn out as it will release in two months.

Phantom Blade 0 is an action role-playing game developed by S-GAME and the game will be coming to PS5 in the future.

Once I first saw this game, it immediately gave me Ghost of Tsushima vibes, but in an Imperial China setting which looks awesome. The art style looks incredible and the gameplay looks very smooth. This game has a chance to be very good and hope to see more of it in the future.

Sword of the Sea is an atmospheric adventure game developed by Giant Squid. It will be coming to PS5 in the future.

Wow, didn't expect that Giant Squid to make another game, but from what I've seen of it, it looks awesome as you get to pretty much surf everything in the world which is cool. I have enjoyed Giant Squid's past games including The Pathless and Journey so if it's anything like those games, I'm there. Hope to see more of this game in the future.

Neva is an emotionally-charged action-adventure game developed by Nomada Studio and published by Devolver Digital. The game is set to be released on PS5 in 2024.

Oh wow, didn't expect Nomada Studio to make another game, but that's awesome. Really enjoyed GRIS as that was a very impactful and emotional game and judging by this trailer, it's going to hit the feels for sure which I don't know if I'm ready for or not. Regardless, it looks great, and looking forward to seeing more of this game as it will release next year.

Cat Quest: Pirates of the Purribean is an action role-playing game developed by The Gentlebros and published by Kepler Interactive. The game is set to be released on PS4 and PS5 in 2024.

Okay, this game is kind of cute and cool as it's basically Pirates of the Caribbean, but with cats which is awesome. This is definitely a game that I can get into and hope to see more of it when it comes out next year.

Foamstars is a 4v4 online party shooter developed by Square Enix. It will be released on PS4 and PS5 in the future.

When I first saw this game, the first thing I thought of was that this is totally Splatoon, but developed by Square Enix. Didn't expect Square Enix to make a Splatoon-like game, but it definitely looks like a lot of fun as I do enjoy Splatoon. We'll see how this game will turn out when it's released.

The Plucky Squire is an action-adventure game developed by All Possible Futures and published by Devolver Digital. The game is set to be released on PS5 later this year.

I had an interest in this game for a while now as it's basically a game based on a comic book that has an art style similar to the remake of Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening which looks very charming and fun to play. Really looking forward to playing this game and hope to see more of it when it comes out later this year.

Teardown is a sandbox, puzzle, and action game developed and published by Tuxedo Labs as it will be coming to PS5 later this year.

This game has already been released on Xbox Series X and PC and from what I've played, it's basically another version of Minecraft, but with more focus on vehicles which is a lot of fun. If you enjoy Minecraft, then you'll probably enjoy Teardown as it'll be coming to PS5 later this year.

Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater that was released on the PS2 back in 2004 and it will be coming to PS5 in the near future.

Holy crap, it's happening! The rumors were true and the game is real! Despite Hideo Kojima no longer being a part of Konami, I did want Metal Gear Solid to return in some fashion with remakes and it looks like we're getting it. Though I'm surprised that they're remaking the third game rather than the first, I'm down with it though since I considered Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, my #1 favorite game in the series, so it's great in my book. In addition, it looks like it might be more than just a remake, but a reimaging of the game due to the title being labeled as Δ instead of 3. Δ is delta which means change so there might be changes to this game compared to the original like the Final Fantasy VII Remake series and the Resident Evil remake series. If that's the case, the possibilities of what they could change are endless and exciting. Either way, looking forward to seeing the gameplay of this when it happens.

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is a collection of the first three Metal Gear Solid games, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as it will be released on PS5 later this autumn.

Of course, if we're going to get a remake of a Metal Gear Solid game, we have to get the original games as well, and glad to have this collection in modern consoles for other people to play. If you're interested in the Metal Gear series, this is your chance to buy the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 when it comes out this autumn.

Towers of Aghasba is an open-world fantasy game developed and published by Dreamlit Inc. as it will be released on PS5 in 2024.

This game looks and reminds me a lot of The Last Guardian as I do enjoy that game as it looks like a lot of fun. The environments look beautiful and the gameplay looks fun and smooth. This is definitely a game that I'll keep an eye on in the future and hope to see more this game when it comes out next year.

Final Fantasy XVI is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix. The game will be coming to PS5 on June 22, 2023.

Every time I see this game, I continue to get more hyped and this new trailer for the game is no different. The environments continue to look beautiful, the gameplay continues to be flashy and smooth, the story seems very intriguing, the characters look cool, and the music is on fire. Can't believe this game is coming out next month and I can't wait to play it.

Alan Wake II is a survival horror game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing. The game is set to be released on PS5 on October 17, 2023.

The last time we saw any footage of this game was back in The Game Awards 2021 so it's great to finally see gameplay of this game and it looks great. Great to see Alan Wake back and hope the sequel delivers so the series can continue. Looking forward to this game when it comes out in five months.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game developed and published by Ubisoft. The game will be coming to PS4 and PS5 on October 12, 2023.

It was only a matter of time before we get a new Assassin's Creed game and I have to say, it does look pretty good, but it reminds me of a lot of the Assassin's Creed games involving Ezio probably because of the protagonist's design. Either way, we'll see how this game will turn out when it comes out in five months.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is an action role-playing game developed and published by Cygames. The game will be released on PS4 and PS5 this winter.

It's great to see a new Granblue Fantasy game which looks pretty good and fun. I really love the art style and visuals and the music slaps as well. Looking forward to seeing how the game will turn out when it comes this winter.

Street Fighter 6 is a fighting game developed and published by Capcom. The game will be released on PS4 and PS5 on June 2, 2023.

Just like with Final Fantasy XVI, every time I see more of this game, the more hyped I get and it's coming in less than two weeks which is insane. This looks to have a better launch than Street Fighter V which I'm glad that Capcom corrected their mistake like last time and it's going to pay off for them big time. You also get a pre-order bonus with alternate color costumes with a few fighters as well as titles and stickers which is great. I can't wait to experience the full game myself when it comes out in less than two weeks.

ULTROS is a psychedelic Metroidvania developed and published by Hadoque. The game will be released on PS5 in 2024.

This game reminds me a lot of Hollow Knight in terms of its combat which I enjoy. Really enjoy the art style with its color which does stand out a lot. This game definitely has my interest and we'll see how this game will turn out when it comes out next year.

Tower of Fantasy is a free-to-play open-world action role-playing game developed by Hotta Studio as it will be coming to PS5 in the future.

This game has already been released on PC and from what I've played, it's a lot of fun and very similar to Genshin Impact in some ways so if you're into Genshin Impact, you might enjoy Tower of Fantasy. Great to see that this game will be coming to PS5 and we'll see how the game turns out in the system when it's released.

Dragon's Dogma II is an action role-playing game developed and published by Capcom. The game will be released on PS5 in the future.

We've been waiting to see more footage of this game since they first announced that the game was in development and it looks freaking amazing. Really hope this game does well so we can get more games in this franchise in the future. Looking forward to seeing more.

Marathon is a remake of the original Marathon that was released on PC back in 1994 as it will be coming to PS5 in the future.

Wow, I didn't expect Bungie to be remaking Marathon as that series was huge back in the mid-90s with PC gaming so seeing it make a comeback is quite surreal. The game does look pretty good as well and we'll see what changes they'll make compared to the original game. Hope to see more of this game in the future.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is an action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is set to be released on PS5 this fall.

We've been waiting for new footage of this game ever since the PlayStation Showcase back in 2021 and this game looks incredible. It looks like Kraven The Hunter will be the main villain of this game which is quite interesting. Plus, the fact that you can play as Spider-Man with the Venom powers is awesome and that you can play as Peter Parker's Spider-Man and Miles Morales' Spider-Man back-to-back is great. I was already sold on the game beforehand, but this extended gameplay trailer just made me even more hyped for it. Looking forward to playing this game this fall.

Overall, this was a good presentation from PlayStation. This is the weakest PlayStation Showcase that they've done. Despite showing some good-looking indie games, great third-party games, and the first-party games they did show looked amazing, there were too many CGI trailers and only a little gameplay with the games they've shown which definitely brought it down in my opinion. Though, even though I have no interest in PS VR2, the games coming to it look great so I will admit that. Other than that, it was still a pretty good showcase from PlayStation, but just not their strongest. Regardless, looking forward to the games that PlayStation will have for PS5 in the future.
