Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Indie World Showcase + Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase 8.27.2024
Hello everyone,
Welcome to Gaming Influence, a reboot of the same name I created in WrestleCorp. However, I will not only be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series but also on video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.
I'll give my thoughts on the Indie World Showcase + Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase on August 27, 2024, for this edition of Gaming Influence.
Before I start, only some games shown in this presentation will be discussed as I will mainly talk about games that I care about and am interested in. If the games you care about and are interested in don't show up here, don't take it personally, I have nothing against the games, but they're just not for me or I don't have much to say about them except cool. However, if you're happy with the games you care about and are interested in I have nothing to say about it, good for you and I'm so glad for you.
Anyway, let's get started!
This Nintendo Direct will showcase indie and third-party games coming to Nintendo Switch later this year with no information on the next Nintendo console so let's get to it!
Balatro: Friends of Jimbo is DLC for the poker-themed roguelike deck-building game developed by LocalThunk and published by Playstack. The DLC is available now on Switch.
Well, we did see DAVE THE DIVER crossover with Balatro at Gamescom Opening Night Live last week, but the fact that we got more crossovers with Balatro is insane. We got Balatro crossover with Witcher III Wild Hunt, Vampire Survivors, DAVE THE DIVER, and Among Us which is awesome. It makes me wonder if we're going to get more crossovers with Balatro, but so far, I like it and the fact that it's free and it's now out is awesome. If you're into deck-building games, Balatro is the game for you.
Neva is an adventure game developed by Nomada Studio and published by Devolver Digital. The game is set to be released on Switch on October 15, 2024.
We've seen this game in the PlayStation State of Play as well as Summer Game Fest in the past, but now, this game is coming to Switch which is awesome. With this game being developed by the team that did GRIS, expect this game to hit you in the feels and I don't know if I'm ready for that, but it should be a fun experience regardless. Looking forward to trying out the game once it's released in two months.
Coffee Talk Tokyo is a coffee brewing and heart-to-heart talking simulator developed and published by Chorus Worldwide where the game will be released on Switch in 2025.
Great to see that this series will be getting another game in the series and the fact that this game is taking place in Tokyo now is awesome. It'll be interesting to see if they would add anything new to the game in terms of features instead of a different location and environment, but we'll have to wait and see. Hope to see more of this game in the future as it'll be released next year.
Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker is DLC for the role-playing game developed and published by Sabotage Studio. The DLC is set to be released on Switch in Spring 2025.
Great to see that this game is getting DLC as this is one of my favorite indie games that I played last year. The DLC looks to be packed with a new story and a new playable party member too which is awesome. The fact that this DLC is also free is great. Hope to see more of this DLC down the line when it comes out spring of next year.
PowerWash Simulator - Shrek Special Pack is a simulation game developed by FuturLab and published by Square Enix. The DLC is set to be released on Switch in Fall 2024.
Okay, I like how this game continues to go to different worlds and universes to powerwash and one in Shrek is not what I expected. However, this should be a lot of fun and very relaxing when doing this as it's just a power washing simulator after all. Looking forward to seeing how this will turn out once it's released this fall.
MORSELS is a fast-paced creature-collecting roguelike game developed by Furcula and published by Annapurna Interactive. The game is set to be released on Switch in February 2025.
Peglin is a roguelike game developed and published by Red Nexus Games where the game is available now on Switch.
Wow, very cool to see that this game is coming to Switch as this game has been on PC and mobile for quite a while. Plus, the fact that this game is timed console exclusive is also impressive too. This game is a lot of fun in terms of replayability and it feels like you're playing a pachinko machine. If you're into that, then Peglin is the game for you as it's available now to play.
Wobbly Life is a vibrant open-world physics sandbox game developed and published by RubberBand Games where the game is set to be released on Switch in December 2024.
Wow, it's really cool to see this game coming to Switch as it's a lot of fun and silly at the same time. Since this game is mainly physics-based, expect some crazy and insane moments in this game where you'll just LOL, and it'll be a fun time. If you like gaming experiences like that, you'll enjoy Wobbly Life as it'll be released on Switch in four months.
PICO PARK 2 is a puzzle platformer developed and published by TECOPARK where the game is available now on Switch.
Oh dang, I didn't expect a sequel to this game at all, but awesome! This game is more fun when you have friends or someone to play with online as you're solving puzzles in a team. This could be a lot of fun and chaotic, but that makes it great. The fact that eight people can play this game is insane and there's a Dark mode challenge which is quite cool. This game is available now on Switch so looking forward to it once I get to it.
Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX is the definitive edition of the platformer developed and published by Yacht Club Games, Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope. The game is set to be released on Switch in 2025.
This was announced in a Yacht Club Direct earlier this year, but great to see that Nintendo is promoting the game as this game is still amazing a decade later. This game was originally released on 3DS, Wii U, and PC in 2014 so a decade later, we got the definitive edition of the game which pretty much improved the game overall which was already great from the first place. If you never played Shovel Knight, would recommend doing so and getting the definitive edition which comes out next year.
Europa is an action-adventure game developed by Novadust Entertainment and published by Future Friends Games. The game is set to be released on Switch on October 11, 2024.
We've seen this game before in the previous Indie World Showcase and it continues to look incredible. To me, this game is like an indie version of the modern 3D Zelda games which is quite impressive for what it is. Plus, the game also has a demo available as well for players to play too so looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out once it's released in two months.
Cuisineer is a food-focused action roguelike game developed by BattleBrew Productions and published by Marvelous. The game is set to be released on Switch on January 28, 2025.
This game has been on PC for a while and it's a fun action game that is entirely based on food which I find great. It's also a roguelike as well as it keeps changing every time you die which makes it fun and interesting. If you're into roguelikes, would recommend checking this game as it'll be released on Switch in five months.
On Your Tail is a narrative mystery adventure life simulation game developed by Memorable Games and published by Humble Bundle. The game is set to be released on Switch on November 21, 2024.
This game was showcased back in an Indie World Showcase last year so great to see more information about this game after so long and we finally got a release date as well. This looks to be a mystery simulation game and I'm very curious to see how this game will turn out once it comes out in three months.
Metal Slug Tactics is a turn-based tactics game developed by Leikir Studio and published by Dotemu. The game is set to be released on Switch in Fall 2024.
This game has been showcased for a while now for the past few years and finally, after all of this time, it'll be released soon and that's great. It's been so long since Metal Slug has gotten games and attention that they slowly getting games again which is awesome. Looking forward to this game when it comes out this fall.
The Plucky Squire is an action-adventure game developed by All Possible Future Games and published by Devolver Digital. The game is set to be released on Switch on September 17, 2024.
This is another game we've seen for quite a while now and every time I see this game, I'm always impressed. However, after so long, we finally got a release date and it's sooner than I expected as well. This game is a combination of a classic pixel art 2D Zelda with a modern 2D Zelda with the back and forth on the 2D and 3D in this game which looks incredible. I can't wait to play this as it'll be released next month.
Pizza Tower is a platformer developed and published by Tour De Pizza. The game is available now on Switch.
Oh yes, finally! After so long, the game is finally out on Switch as this game was out on PC for a year now. This game is pretty much like Wario Land so if you're into that type of game, you'll enjoy Pizza Tower. Would recommend playing this game if you're into platformers so get this game on Switch if you can as it's available now.
Tetris Forever is a puzzle game collection developed and published by Digital Ecilpse where it includes Tetris, Tetris 2 + BomBliss, Tetris Battle Gaiden, Hatris, Super BomBliss, Super BomBliss DX, Super Tetris 2 + BomBliss: Gentei-ban, Super Tetris 3, and Tetris Time Wrap. This game collection will be released on Switch in 2024.
Dang, didn't expect a Tetris collection here, but this is awesome as it also includes Famicom and Super Famicom Tetris games on this collection which is great. Love the idea of adding a new Tetris game in Tetris Time Wrap where it changes which is going to fun and chaotic. I also like how they're adding documentary on the history of Tetris as well with this collection which is great to see too. Plus, we got the announcement that Tetris from NES is coming to NSO this winter along with a Tetris 99 Maxiumus Cup event on Tetris 99 celebrating 40 years of Tetris which is awesome. Looking forward to this collection when it comes out later this year.
Star Overdrive is an action-adventure game developed by Carcal Games and published by Dear Villagers. The game is set to be released on Switch in 2025.
Man, this looks to be a fun action-adventure that definitely has modern 3D Zelda vibes with the exploration and everything which is cool. I also like the fact that your weapon is a hoverboard that you can use for travel which is sick. This game is looking to be a lot of fun and hope to see more of it soon once it's released next year.
Goat Simulator 3 is an action game developed and published by Coffee Stain where the game is available now on Switch digitally and a physical version will be released November 2024.
Oh wow, didn't expect Goat Simulator 3 to come to Switch so this was a surprise. However, nice to see it here after Goat Simulator Remastered was announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live last week. Cool to see that the digital version is available now on Switch and a physical version of the game will be released in three months. If you love chaos, would recommend playing Goat Simulator 3.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 1st is a remake of the role-playing game developed and published by Nihon Falcom, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. The game is set to be released on Switch in 2025.
Holy crap! I didn't really expect a remake of the first Trails game to appear here. Granted, Nihon Falcom did announced at Anime Expo that a remake of the first Trails game is currently in development, but I didn't expect it to see it so soon and it looks incredible. Great to see this game being remade as the original game is stuck on PSP. It looks to be graphically the same as the rceent Trails games which is great and it looks like they improved the gameplay from the original game as well. This was a nice surprise here and I can't wait to see more of it once it's released next year.
Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition is a turn-based strategy game developed and published by Team17 where the game will be released on Switch on September 26, 2024.
Oh wow, didn't expect Worms Armageddon to get a port on Switch, but here we are! This game was a fun turn-based strategy game back on PC so great to see this game on modern consoles. It looks to be the same game as well from 1999, but now in modern consoles which is awesome to see. If you're into turn-based strategy games, would recommend checking out this game as it'll be released next month.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Patrick Star Game is an open-world sandbox action-adventure game developed and published by Outright Games where the game will be released on Switch on October 4, 2024.
Oh cool, Patrick is getting his own game, that's pretty neat. This game is kind of similar to SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom, but staring Patrick which is nice. It looks to have a lot of content and I'm curious to see how the game will turn out overall as the game will be released in two months.
Fitness Boxing 3: Your Personal Trainer is a fitness game developed by Imagineer and published by Nintendo. The game is set to be released on Switch on December 5, 2024.
Dang, didn't expect a new game in this series, but cool to see this series continue as it's really a good fitness game. It looks like the sequel has added a new mode with the sitting exercises which is nice as well as getting 30 new songs and new trainers as well. If you need to get fit in a fun way, would recommend getting this game as it's coming out in four months.
Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is a fighting game collection developed and published by Capcom which includes Capcom Vs. SNK: Millenium Fight 2000 Pro, Capcom Vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millenium 2001, Project Justice, Capcom Fighting Evolution, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper, Plasma Sword, Power Stone, and Power Stone 2. The collection is set to be released on Switch in 2025.
Holy crap! First, we got a Marvel Vs. Capcom Collection and now another Capcom Fighting Collection which includes the Capcom Vs. SNK games and Power Stone games?! Heck yes! These games are stuck on the consoles they were released in so I'm glad that they're being released on modern consoles with a training mode to each game, a museum to view art, and a music track to listen to the music of the games. Capcom is feeding us well and I love it! Looking forward to this collection once it comes out next year.
Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Archives is a fighting game collection developed and published by Capcom which inclues X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, The Punisher, X-Men: Children of the Atom. Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter, and Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes. The collection is set to be released on Switch digitally on September 12, 2024, and physically on November 22, 2024.
This collection was announced on the June Nintendo Direct and it blew my mind that this collection was happening. Now, we finally got a release date and it's coming a lot sooner than expected. Just a few weeks digitally and three months physically. I can't wait. If you enjoy fighting games and crossovers, this is a game collection that you won't regret buying, it's worth it.
Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a role-playing game developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo. The game is set to be released on Switch in early 2025.
Oh wow! Didn't expect a new Atelier this soon after Atelier Ryza 3 just came out last year. Gust and Koei Tecmo are really making these Atelier games very quick, it's insane. Regardless, this game looks amazing as I really dig Yumia's character design and I expect the gameplay to be as fun as ever which is expected with Atelier games. The story seems intriguing as well so I'm looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out overall once it's released early next year.
Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unificiation Wars is a collection of two role-playing games developed and published by Konami, Suikoden, and Suikoden II. The collection is set to be released on Switch on March 6, 2025.
Oh my god, yes! We knew that this collection was being made and was supposed to come out this year, but got delayed. However, it's finally coming out and it's coming to Switch too which is awesome. If you're a fan of JRPGs, you'll love Suikoden as it also has a mix of strategy into the gameplay as well as a lot of characters and units to play and choose from. Looking forward to replaying this collection once it comes out in seven months.
DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D REMAKE is a remake of the role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix, DRAGON QUEST III. The game is set to be released on Switch on November 14, 2024.
Great to see that Nintendo and Square Enix continue to market this game as it's definitely a classic as it continues to come closer to release with the remake. I also like how the game added new features too that wasn't in the original game like changing outfits, voices, and having a new class in Monster Tangler which is cool. This continues to look to be an amazing remake of a classic and looking forward to playing it in three months.
Castlevania Dominus Collection is an action-adventure gaming collection developed and published by Konami which includes Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, Haunted Castle, and Haunted Castle Revisited. This collection is available now on Switch.
Oh my god, yes! Finally! I was waiting for this collection to arrive as we've been getting other Castlevania collections and it was only a matter of time we got the Castlevania DS games, and we finally got them. It's also nice that they added Haunted Castle as well as the remake of it in this collection too which is a nice bonus. Just like with past Castlevania collections, we get the art gallery and a music track which is always great. Finally, the fact that this collection is available now is great as well. Looking forward to playing this collection again once I get the chance.
Sid Meier's Civilization VII is a 4X game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K. The game is set to be released on Switch on February 11, 2025.
We've seen the gameplay trailer for this game back at Gamescom Opening Night Live so we see know this was coming. Regardless, it's still great to see that this game is coming to Switch is very impressive for what it is as this is pretty big third-party game coming to Switch. Very curious to see how this game will do on Switch once it's released in six months.
Tales of Graces f Remastered is a remaster of the action role-playing game developed and published by Bandai Namco, Tales of Graces f. The game is set to be released on Switch on January 17, 2025.
Oh wow! Didn't expect this game to come to modern consoles as this game was made in 2009 on the PS3 so finally glad that this game will be out of the PS3 now. It's great to see that this remaster will also add new features to the game that wasn't in the original like the compass tracker as well turning off battle encounters. Looking forward to seeing how this remaster will turn out once it's released in five months.
MySims: Cozy Bundle is a life simulator collection developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronics Art. The collection will include MySims and MySims Kingdom as the collection will be released on Switch on November 19, 2024.
Very cool to see that this collection will be coming to Switch as these games are stuck on the Wii and Nintendo DS as they were released back in 2007 and 2008. It looks like nothing much has changed with this collection expect with quality of life improvements from the original games which is good to see. If you're into life simulation games, you'll be into MySims as this collection is coming sooner than expect as it'll be released in three months.
Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2 is a survival horror game developed by Steel Wool Studios and published by ScottGames. The game is set to be released on Switch in Holiday 2024.
Very cool to see that this game is coming to Switch as this game is originally a VR game so a console version of this game without the VR is quite nice. Very curious to see how this game will play without VR, but I'm pretty sure due to the game being a survival horror game as well as having the game in first-person, you'll still feel the atmosphere on what this game will be all about. Very curious to see how this game will do once it's released this holiday.
Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach - Ruin is DLC for the survival horror game developed by Steel Wool Studios and published by ScottGames, Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach. The DLC is set to be released on Switch in Holiday 2024.
Cool to see that the DLC for this game is coming to Switch after the base game came to Switch a while back. Granted, the DLC for this game has come out to other consoles already, but playing this on Switch would definitely be fun to play and experience at home or on the go. Very curious to see how the DLC of this game will do on Switch once it's released this holiday.
Disney Epic Monkey: Rebrushed is a remaster of the 3D platformer developed by Purple Lamp and published by THQ Nordic, Disney Epic Monkey. The game is set to be released on Switch on September 24, 2024.
We saw this game showcased before back at the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase in February of this year, but great to see that this game is getting an actual release date this time as it's coming a lot sooner than expected. This was a fun game back on the Wii and I expect the game to be fun yet again on Switch. Looking forward to revisting this game when it comes out on Switch next month.
LEGO Horizon Adventures is an action-adventure game developed by Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is set to be released on Switch in Holiday 2024.
We've seen this game multiple times in the past already, but it's still wild to me that this game is coming to Switch despite the IP being owned by PlayStation. What a time to be in. Granted, still no release date, but I have a feeling that PlayStation will be the one announcing the releasing date for this game. Looking forward to trying out the game myself when it comes out this holiday.
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is a role-playing adventure game developed and published by Marvelous where the game will be released on Switch in Spring 2025.
Holy crap! I didn't expect Rune Factory to get a makeover like this, but this is awesome! It looks like they give a huge budget to this series as the graphics look totally different compared to past Rune Factory games which is great to see. Plus, it looks like they also amped up the gameplay as well with it being more action-focused with different elements and so forth which should be a lot of fun. The traditional elements of Rune Factory is there with the farming as well as the dating so great to see that back. Very curious to see how this reimagining of Rune Factory will turn out as it'll be released next spring.
Yakuza Kiwami is an action-adventure game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. The game is set to be released on Switch on October 24, 2024.
Oh my god, yes, finally! It's about time that the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series is coming to Switch and glad that it finally happened after so many years. Granted, I feel like they should've released this a lot earlier, but better later than never as the series has been at its highest in the past few years and bringing this series to Switch will only make the series grow. If you love beat em' up games in an action-adventure setting, then I would recommend playing this game. Looking forward to playing this game yet again, but on Switch in two months.
Overall, this was a great presentation from Nintendo. I have to say that both the indies and third-parties delivered for the most part as there's something for everyone in terms of genres and so forth which I think is a win for everyone. Plus, there are very good ports and remasters coming to the system which I feel like the Switch is the best console to play both retro and modern games in. In addition, we also got new original games coming to the system too even though the next Nintendo console is on the horizon which is insane. Regardless, there's still a lot to play on Nintendo Switch heading into the end of the year and early next year as it's only a matter of time before we get to see the next Nintendo console. Looking forward to that when it happens.
