Hello everyone,
Welcome to Manga Influence, similar to Gaming Influence, but mainly giving my thoughts on certain manga and manga series with some fun mix of manga-related content here.
For this edition of Manga Influence, I'll be ranking my favorite manga in 2024.
Before I start, my rankings will only be based on manga that were either released in 2024 or chapters that were released in 2024. Also, my rankings will not include light novels, manhwa, and manhua. In addition, if your favorite manga in 2024 doesn't make it on my rankings, that doesn't mean I dislike the manga, it's just that I haven't read it or aren't interested in it so keep that in mind.
Anyway, let's get started!
Here are some honorable mentions that I enjoyed, but didn't make it on the list:
Honorable Mentions: Blue Period, The Summer Hikaru Died, Don't Call It Mystery, Magus of the Library, The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, Heavenly Delusion, A Brief Moment of Ichika, Gokurakugai, Astro Royale, Undead Unluck, The Elusive Samurai, Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You: Soulmate, My Dress Up-Darling, Delicious in Dungeon, One-Punch Man, Call of the Night, Hirayasumi, RuriDragon, Kagurabachi, Kindergarten Wars, Gachiakuta, Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You, Detective Conan, World Trigger, Blue Box, Four Knights of the Apocalypse, The Ancient Magus' Bride, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Berserk, To Your Eternity
Now, let's start with my #20 favorite manga in 2024:
Boku no Hero Academia or My Hero Academia in the West is a Japanese superhero manga series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in July 2014 to August 2024.
This year, My Hero Academia went from #18 to #20 from my favorite manga of 2023. Even though I feel like the final arc of the manga isn’t the best and the ending of the manga isn’t anything spectacular, I can’t deny that this series is pretty good overall and will leave an impact on many people in the years and decades to come. An end of an era here, but we’ll see what’s next for Kōhei Horikoshi after My Hero Academia.
Here's my #19 favorite manga in 2024:
Akane-banashi is a Japanese manga series written by Yuki Suenaga and illustrated by Takamasa Moue. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in February 2022 and it's still ongoing.
I’ve mentioned this manga in my Most Anticipated Manga in 2024 and it was able to make it in my Favorite Manga in 2024. For those who never heard about this series, it’s about a teenage girl named Akane Osaki, she aims to be the highest-ranking rakugo due to trying to avenge her father who was expelled from the profession six years earlier. This manga has pretty good drama in it as Akane looks to make her father proud as she has to go through a lot of challenges to achieve her goals. I feel like this manga will grow in popularity once it gets an anime, but only time will tell.
Here's my #18 favorite manga in 2024:
A Sign of Affection is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by suu Morishita. It was serialized by Kodansha's Dessert in July 2019 and it is still ongoing.
This year, A Sign of Affection went from #12 to #18 from my favorite manga of 2023. This is a pretty good romance manga where the dynamic of the protagonists is well-developed and fun to read. This year's chapters with the manga were well done and without spoiling it, let's just say that the romantic relationship between the protagonists is going in an interesting direction and that's all I have to say on that. The reason why this is placed lower compared to last year is due to myself enjoying other manga more than this. However, if you're into romance manga, would recommend checking this out, you won't be disappointed.
Here's my #17 favorite manga in 2024:
Medalist is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tsurumaikada. It was serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon in May 2020 and it's still ongoing.
This was a manga that a friend recommended to me earlier this year and after reading it, it has a great and inspiring story which can resonate with a lot of people who want to fulfill and chase their dream. The manga is about Inori, an 11-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a figure skater. As usual, when trying to achieve your dream, there's going to be obstacles in the way that will be challenging, but with the help of people trying to help you achieve your dream, the dream is starting to become more of a reality and Medalist is that story. If you're into these types of manga, would recommend checking out Medalist and you will get the feels and the feel of joy when the protagonist accomplish their goals.
Here's my #16 favorite manga in 2024:
Blue Lock is a Japanese manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura as it was serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2018 and is still ongoing.
This year, Blue Lock went from #4 to #16 from my favorite manga of 2023. Yeah, it's a huge drop from being in the top five to now being in the top twenty. Granted, I still enjoy Blue Lock as it's a pretty sports manga with soccer and all that. However, compared to the past arcs within Blue Lock, wasn't really feeling it in terms of suspense and hype, but that's just me. Regardless, still enjoy Blue Lock, but the recent arcs this year hasn't been as great compared to the past arcs within the manga in my personal opinion.
Here's my #15 favorite manga in 2024:
Oshi no Ko is a Japanese manga series written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It has been serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump since April 2020 and is still ongoing.
This year, Oshi no Ko went from #7 to #15 from my favorite manga of 2023. Even though Oshi no Ko is still one of my favorite drama manga/anime out there, I can’t deny that the ending of the manga left a sour taste in my mouth. Without spoiling it, let’s just say it’s one of those endings where they left a lot of unanswered questions for you without any answers which is definitely disappointing. Granted, I still love the series, but the ending of the manga definitely brought it down the series for me in the rankings this year.
Here's my #14 favorite manga in 2024:
Tongari Bōshi no Atorie or Witch Hat Atelier in the West is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kamone Shirahama. It has currently serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Morning Two magazine since July 2016 and is still ongoing.
This year, Witch Hat Atelier went from #17 to #14 from my favorite manga of 2023. The manga continues to improve from last year as the current story arc that is happening within the series is quite interesting. With an anime of this series being released in 2025, I expect this series to rise in popularity and hope it continues to grow from here.
Here's my #13 favorite manga in 2024:

Kingdom is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yaushisa Hara. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump in January 2006 and is still ongoing.
This year, Kingdom went from #11 to #13 from my favorite manga of 2023. Even though Kingdom still does not have an official localization in the West, it’s still quite popular in the West for those who have praised it. Kingdom continues to be quite interesting with the current arc it's in and the reason why it went down two spots from last year is due to the other manga being higher on this list that I enjoy more than Kingdom so let's get to those next!
Here's my #12 favorite manga in 2024:
Hunter x Hunter is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi as it was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in March 1998 and is still ongoing.
Ah yes! One of my favorite shōnen manga is back on my favorite manga of the year after it was gone in 2023. I adore Hunter x Hunter and despite only a few chapters being released in 2024, those chapters were incredible as Yoshihiro Togashi still has it in him despite the illness that he has. Really hope that Yoshihiro Togashi takes care of himself because I don't want another Kentaro Miura situation so please take care, Yoshihiro Togashi. Either way, Hunter x Hunter is getting interesting with its current arc and I can't wait to see how the manga will turn out in 2025.
Here's my #11 favorite manga in 2024:
Sakamoto Days is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in November 2020 and it's still ongoing.
I’ve been a fan of this series for quite a while now and it keeps getting better and more interesting in each chapter for me. For those who don’t know what the manga is about, it’s about a retired assassin who works at a convenience store and must protect his family and town from his former enemies. This manga is filled with suspense and intrigue and the manga is finally getting an anime adaptation which will be out early next year. I’m looking forward to it and I hope it expands the series even further.
Now, we're in the top ten. Here's my #10 favorite manga in 2024:
One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in July 1997 and it is still ongoing.
This year, One Piece went from #9 to #10 from my favorite manga of 2023. Yes, one of the most popular shōnen manga in the world is still in the top ten for me. One Piece is at its end with its final arc going on and with the current direction that the Elbaf Arc is going in during this time, I'm very curious to see how it all ends. The reason why it dropped one spot is due to other manga that I personally enjoy more this year compared to One Piece.
Here's my #9 favorite manga in 2024:

JoJo no Kimyou an Bouken Part 9: The JOJOLands or JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 9: The JOJOLands in the West is based on the ninth story arc of the Japanese manga series, JoJo no Kimyou an Bouken, or JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in the West, written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki as it was serialized in Shueisha's Ultra Jump in February 2023 and it is still ongoing.
This year, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 9 went from #8 to #9 from my favorite manga of 2023. I've always been a fan of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure dating all the way back to the first part and with Part 9: The JOJOLands, it continues to be a great series. What I love about JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is that they combined both comedy and seriousness into one perfectly where one doesn't overshadow the other and they're done pretty well together and Part 9 is no different. I'm really enjoying JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 9: The JOJOLands and I hope it continues to get better heading into next year. The only reason why its placement is not higher than what it’s supposed to be is due to I enjoy other manga more than this.
Here's my #8 favorite manga in 2024:
Vinland Saga is a Japanese historical manga series written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura, it was serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from April 2005 to October 2005 before switching to Monthly Afternoon in December 2005 and it is still ongoing.
This year, Vinland Saga went from #6 to #8 from my favorite manga of 2023. The current arc that the manga is going with the Vinland Arc is getting quite interesting as Thorfinn continues to fight his way through tough challenges and overcome the odds against him. The character development for Thorfinn continues to grow and the story is also getting quite interesting as well. Just like with the other manga series I mentioned here, the reason it’s ranked lower this year compared to last year is due to I enjoy other manga more than this.
Here's my #7 favorite manga in 2024:
Chainsaw Man is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 2018 to December 2020 before switching to Shōnen Jump+ for the second part starting in July 2022 and it is still ongoing.
This year, Chainsaw went from #1 to #7 from my favorite manga of 2023. Even though I do like what is happening with the Current Arc in the manga so far, compared to other arcs, it isn't the best. Despite that, the Current Arc still has its hype moments and it could improve over time as well. However, at this time, the reason why it went lower compared to last year is due to I enjoy other manga more this year.
Here's my #6 favorite manga in 2024:
Kusuriya no Hitorigoto or The Apothecary Diaries in the West is a Japanese manga series written by Natsu Hyūga and illustrated by Touko Shino. It was serialized in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan in May 2017 and Shogakukan's Monthly Sunday Gene-X in August 2017 as both are still ongoing.
This year, this manga went from #13 to #6 in my favorite manga in 2023. I love my mystery manga and this series continues to get better with each chapter in terms of intrigue and suspense as I want to see what happens. So happy that the anime helped boost the popularity of this series I feel like it's only going to grow and improve from here as I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes within 2025.
Now, we're in the top five. Here's my #5 favorite manga in 2024:
Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from March 2018 to September 2024.
This year, Jujutsu Kaisen went from #2 to #5 in my favorite manga of 2023. Similar to how I feel about Oshi no Ko, the series overall is great and worth your time. However, just like with Oshi no Ko, the ending of the manga left a sour taste in my mouth which makes me disappointed as I felt like the ending was rushed and I had more questions than answers with the ending they provided. Again, this series is still amazing in its own right overall which is why it's still in the top five of my favorite manga this year, but that ending definitely put it in this position for me personally.
Here's my #4 favorite manga in 2024:
Kaijuu 8-gou or Kaiju No. 8 in the West is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. It was serialized in Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ in July 2020 and it is still ongoing.
This year, Kaiju No. 8 went from #5 to #4 from my favorite manga of 2023. Kaiju No. 8 continues to pick up in its current arc with the Last Wave Arc as the action continues to be great within the manga itself. The anime really did help the series get more recognition in terms of manga sales and so forth as I feel like it's only going to skyrocket from here. Looking forward to seeing how the manga will continue heading into 2025.
Here's my #3 favorite manga in 2024:
Dandadan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu. It was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump+ in April 2021 and it's still ongoing.
Yep, Dandadan managed to make it in the top three in my favorite manga in 2024. This manga has a great mixture of comedy while also having some fun intense moments with action and romance which just makes the series fun as a whole with very lovable characters. The anime definitely helps boost the popularity of the series in both Japan and the West which is great to see as it's such a great series that deserves more love. Looking forward to seeing how this series will do manga-wise in 2025.
Here's my #2 favorite manga in 2024:
Spy x Family is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tatsuya Endo. It was serialized in Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ in March 2019 and is still ongoing.
This year, Spy x Family still remains #2 from my favorite manga of 2023. Not everyone is going to get into Spy x Family and I get that. However, to me, it's excellent at what it does and the current arc in the manga that is happening with the Term Break Arc has been very wholesome and entertaining to read. Despite enjoying it, there is one manga that I enjoyed more than Spy x Family which I'll get to next!
Now, here's my #1 favorite manga in 2024:
Sousou no Frieren or Frieren: Beyond Journey's End in the West is a Japanese manga series written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukaba Abe. It's been serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday since April 2020 and is still ongoing.
This year, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End went from #10 to #1 from my favorite manga of 2023. Yep, this series managed to reach #1 on my favorite manga in 2024 as the series continues to get better from last year. Sure, the anime that that aired definitely helps this manga a ton, but the current arc that the manga is on with the Foundation Festival Arc is really good as I continue to love the character development among the characters within the story. If you haven't done so already, please give Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, you'll enjoy it.
Those are my favorite manga in 2024.
