Vaude For Thought: Don't Be A Jerk

Hello everyone, this is Vaude Influence.

This will be the first edition of Vaude For Thought. Vaude For Thought will just be me giving my thoughts on certain topics so hope you all enjoy it.

For this edition of Vaude For Thought, this is going to be a serious topic and this is all about having opinions and criticism that is something that should be taken seriously online and in real life.

Anyway, it's time to get serious so let's get to it.

Vaude For Thought: Don't Be A Jerk

Now, I just want to say this. It's okay to have your own opinion on something or someone that you do like and don't like. That's completely normal and you have a right to say what and how you feel about a certain individual or a certain topic. However, what I don't like is when people insult others for not liking what they like and vice versa. There are many forms of this so I'll be going over them in separate parts and hope this will help people understand how to treat people better in general so let's get to it!

We all have opinions. It's also okay to have the same opinions as other people and also okay to have different opinions from other folks. Not everyone has to agree or disagree on what you think or believe and that is okay. If everyone had the same opinion of something, it would be boring and there would be no substance of anything. However, there's one thing I can't stand and that is people trying to insult other for not liking something they like and vice versa. In that moment, they're basically trying to show that their opinion matters and nothing that you say doesn't and that doesn't sit right with me. Let give you an example.

Let's say that you and someone that you're sitting next to in theatres watched a movie. After the movie is over, the person said that they loved the movie and that the final battle of that movie was done perfectly. For you, you felt that the final battle in the movie was quite rushed and it didn't have a big impact on you. The person then verbally attacks you for not having the same opinion as them by saying that your opinion doesn't matter and began to swear at you making you feel bad in the process. To me, that is unforgivable as that person is downplaying you for having a different opinion than them and feels that their opinion is right. Granted, there are no right or wrong opinions on anything. Okay, maybe politics, but that's a whole different thing as I don't want to get into that as I'm mainly focusing on entertainment here so let's get back to that.

Back with the movie example, you gave valid reasons on why you didn't like the final battle of the movie such as being rushed and not having a big impact on you and that's totally fine because that is how you feel. Some people may agree with you, but there will be times where people disagree with you and that's fine because it's your opinion which doesn't make it a fact. In addition, you didn't hate the final battle of just because you hate it for no reason, you have an actual and valid reason on why you didn't like the final battle. This is pretty much criticism here and I will give a better idea on how criticism should be taken care of.

There's nothing wrong with criticism. In fact, I feel like there should be more criticism in general because not everything is perfect and no one is perfect. However, there are ways to improve and become better as that should be the main goal of everyone. People shouldn't feel criticism is a negative thing. Sure, it may hurt and you might begin to question yourself, but actually getting feedback on what could have been better and hope to become better is a part of growing so don't take it personally, use it to make yourself more motivated and better. This applies to entertainment as well so let's get back to the example with the final battle in the movie theatres.

Although, the person that insulted you for not liking the final battle has a right of saying that they enjoyed it, but they should have done it in a more respectful way that doesn't hurt anyone. That person could have been like, "That's your opinion and that's fine, but I personally feel like the final battle was perfect because it brought in a great climax to the whole story,". To me, this is a better way to deal with someone disagreeing with your opinion without insulting someone else about it and I feel like more people should do this as you're not only helping others, but yourself. People that believe something is perfect with no issues at all that attack people that don't agree with them are called stans as I'll be going over how stans should be dealt with or how they should behave without attacking others.

Granted, I have nothing against stans, they're just people that are obsessed with a particular individual, group, media, etc., and there's nothing wrong for thinking everything is perfect with them. However, I feel stans should try to treat other people with respect when they're disagreeing or disliking something that they like. Let's go back to the movie theatres example. The person next to you watching the movie is a stan of that final battle and thinks that everything in that scene was done perfectly. You however, disagree. You found that the final battle was rushed as it was all happening way too fast without much buildup which left you disappointed and it didn't have a big impact on you. The person next to you is insulting you for disliking the final battle and calls you a hater even though you enjoyed the rest of the movie expect the final battle. To me, very unacceptable as it's okay to criticize something that you enjoy as not everything is perfect. As I mentioned before, instead of the stan insulting you for disliking the final battle, they should have said something like this, "Well, it's okay if you didn't like the final battle, but for me personally, I love it and I think it's perfect as the final battle was epic and it brought a conclusion to the whole story,". Saying something like this will not only show that you love it, but also disagreeing with someone else's opinion without hurting their feelings. Now only certain stans can do that... (I'm looking at you WWE, AEW, One Piece, My Hero Academia, Super Smash Bros., and Pokémon stans... for big examples).

Now, let's talk about the opposite of stans very quick and those are..., you guess it, haters!

As you guess and understand it, haters are just people that just hate on individuals, groups, media, etc. that generally hate for no reason and like to complain a lot. Granted, there are haters that have valid reasons for disliking something that are respectful too, but most of the time, they're generally rude and make you feel bad for liking something that they hate. For those people, I just have to say this. Just leave. Go outside. Get some fresh breath. Enjoy life. Why try to bring people down? It's not worth it. Granted, if they have valid reasons and are respectful to other people's opinions on what they like, then okay, it's fine to hate, but don't be a jerk about it. That's all.

To recap, it's okay to have an opinion on something and it's okay to have different opinions without having to agree with someone else. However, if there's one moral message about this, it's pretty simple. Don't be a jerk. Be respectful and kind to other people for their thoughts and opinions. That's all I want and for those that have been attacked for something like this, I'm sure you all want that too. It's not actually hard at all so hopefully, someone out there can learn something from this and hope whoever is a jerk that does something like this in the past can change for the better to not only for others, but for themselves.

Well, that's the first edition of Vaude For Thought.
