Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Sonic Central - June 7th, 2022

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence which is a reboot of the same name that I created back in WrestleCorp. However, not only will I be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series, but also video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll be giving my thoughts on Sonic Central that is a part of Summer Game Fest 2022, on June 7, 2022.

Anyway, let's get started!

Now, first off, for those who are unfamiliar with the Sonic the Hedgehog series, it's a platformer series developed by Sega. In addition, the Sonic the Hedgehog games have branched off into spin-off series that are different from the mainline Sonic the Hedgehog games. For Sonic Central, they generally present video games, mobile games, movies, TV shows, merchandise, concerts, etc. from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise as this Sonic Central will present what's going to happen with Sonic the Hedgehog this year.

Anyway, let's get to it!

Sonic Origins is a Sonic the Hedgehog video game compilation by Sega as it will include four games: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. The game compilation is set to be released on June 23, 2022, on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Despite the confusing editions that this game has with the physical, digital, digital deluxe edition, and so forth, I'm really excited for this compilation as it will be great to play these classic games on modern consoles. Also, those animations they did in the trailer were really great as well. Looking forward to the compilation when it comes out later this month.

Sonic Frontiers is a platformer game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega as it will be released on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2022.

With the disappointment of Sonic Forces five years ago, Sonic Frontiers has to deliver to show that 3D Sonic games can be good. From what I've seen so far, this game has potential to be really good and very different for what we've seen from 3D Sonic games. From the trailers we saw in this presentation, it looks like Knuckles will be in the game which is cool, and the open world aspect looks great with some unique bosses to fight against. Again, really hope this game delivers because 3D Sonic games can be good if done right and hopefully, Sonic Team can get this right. We'll see how this game will turn out when it's released later this year.

Overall, this was an average Sonic Central. Even though we got some interesting new info with the Sonic Prime TV show, new Sonic merchandise, and having a new Sonic Symphony concert, nothing was really groundbreaking here and feel like this could be done via press conference release, or a Twitter thread personally. Plus, they didn't even show much new footage with Sonic Frontiers so that was a big disappointment. Granted, not a terrible digital presentation, but personally, it felt meaningless. However, that's just me.
