Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Summer Game Fest 2022

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence which is a reboot of the same name that I created back in WrestleCorp. However, not only will I be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series, but also video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll be giving my thoughts on Summer Game Fest 2022, on June 9, 2022.

Before I start, not every game that was shown in this presentation will be talked about as I will mainly talk about games that I care and am interested on. If the games that you care and are interested don't show up here, don't take it personally, have nothing against the games, but they're not just for me or it's just I don't have much to say about them expect cool. However, if you are happy with the games that you care and are interested on that I'm not or nothing to say about it, good for you and I'm happy for you.

Anyway, let's get started!

Now, for those who might be wondering, what is Summer Game Fest? Summer Game Fest is a digital event hosted by Geoff Keighley and his team as it brings video game companies together for one event for everyone to enjoy. Withe E3 not happening this year, this is one of the biggest gaming events of the summer so did Summer Game Fest delivered this year? In addition, will also Days of the Devs as they were some really good-looking indie games that should be talked about so going to give them a spotlight on here as well. Let's get to it!

Street Fighter VI is the next installment of the popular fighting game series from Capcom, Street Fighter, as the game is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2023.

I have to say that the more I've seen on Street Fighter, the more I'm intrigued by the game as the gameplay continues to look fun. You can't have Street Fighter without Guile so glad to see him officially confirmed for the game as his character design looks great and he's the same as always with his gameplay style and so forth. Looking forward to seeing what this game is all about next year.

The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game developed by Striking Distance Studios and published by Krafton. The game is set to be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, on December 2, 2022.

We pretty much got the same trailer from the PlayStation State of Play, but with more gameplay and dang, it looks creepy and gory as heck. This Dead Space spiritual successor continues to impress me and I can't wait to see how this game will actually turn out when it comes this December.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is a reboot of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II game as the game is set to be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, on October 28, 2022.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of first-person shooters as well as Call of Duty, I do have to say that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II does look great and it has the potential to be what Call of Duty fans want from the series again so we'll see how this game will turn out once it's released this October.

Flashback 2 is a sequel to the sci-fi side-scroller classic, Flashback, developed by Paul Cuisset and published by Microids. The game is set to be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC in Winter 2022.

Dang, didn't expect a sequel to Flashback since that game didn't have a new game since Flashback in 1992 so that's insane. We'll see how the sequel of this classic will turn out when it will release on all consoles this winter.

Highwater is a story-driven 3D adventure game developed by Demagog Studio and published by Rogue Games Inc. The game is set to be released on PC later this year.

From what I've seen of this game in the trailer, it looks pretty fun and I really love the art style of the game which stood out from the rest of the games that were showcased here.  Looking forward to seeing more of this game later this year.

American Arcadia is a 2.5D action side-scroller developed by Out of the Blue Games and published by Raw Fury. The game is set to be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Just like with Highwater, I'm really liking the art style of the game as it looks very unique and it looks like the game has a variety of gameplay with the use of puzzles and stealth which is cool to see. Hope to see more of this game in the future when it comes out.

Goat Simulator 3 is a sequel to the original Goat Simulator game developed by Coffee Stain Studios back in 2014 as it will be coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in the future.

Dang, didn't expect a sequel to this game, but the question is, where is Goat Simulator 2?! So, they just skipped Goat Simulator 2 to Goat Simulator 3? Alright, Coffee Stain Studios, you guys need to drink some coffee because I think you forgot an extra game, but this is cool and I'm interested to see how this game will turn out once it comes out.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is a tactical role-playing game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K Games. The game is set to be released on October 7, 2022, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

The characters that they've added in this game are quite cool and are definitely a lot of Marvel characters on here which is nice. However, they still really haven't show any gameplay of this game which is the main focus of games generally so what gives Firaxis Games and 2K? Either way, would like to see gameplay of this soon since it's coming out early October.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is DLC for the run and gun game developed and published by Studio MDHR as it's set to be released on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC on June 30, 2022.

I've been waiting for the DLC of this game for five years now and the fact that it's finally coming is surreal. At this point, it's not even DLC, it's a brand-new game especially with the new levels they added as well as adding the new character, Ms. Chalice. Looking forward to this DLC when it comes out at the end of the month.

Neon White is a first-person shooter and puzzle-platforming game developed by Angel Matrix and published by Annapurna Interactive. The game is set to be released on Switch and PC on June 16, 2022.

When I first saw this game back at a Nintendo Direct of February 2021, I was very intrigued on what this game was about as the setting, characters, and gameplay intrigued me with being card-based as well as a shooter. After seeing more of the game, this actually has a chance to be a pretty good game so looking forward to playing it once I have the chance.

Midnight Fight Express is an isometric brawler game developed by Jacob Dzwinel and published by Humble Games. The game is set to be released on Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One on August 23, 2022.

This looks to be a fun brawler with shooting into it as the art style makes it unique and so forth. We will see how the game will turn when it comes to all consoles in two months.

Honkai: Star Rail is a free-to-play 3D tactical role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo as it will come to Android, iOS, and PC in the future.

Despite no release date yet, I have enjoyed miHoYo games and with Honkai: Star Rail, this one doesn't look to be any different. Granted, would love to see gameplay of the game, but it's probably further in development than expected. Looking forward to seeing more of this game once they have the chance to.

Zenless Zone Zero is an urban fantasy action role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo as it will come to Android, iOS, and PC in the future.

Just like with Honkai: Star Rail, there has no release date for the game, but unlike Honkai: Star Rail, there was actual gameplay for the game and it looks freaking great. Hope to see more of this game in the future as it looks like miHoYo has a lot of games coming in the future as I'm interested to see how it will turn out.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a beat 'em-up game developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu. The game is set to be released on PC, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One, on June 16, 2022.

Holy crap, they added Casey Jones in the game and the fact that you can play up to six players locally or online?! Sign me up! This looks to be everything what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games should be, and I love it. Can't wait to see how the game turns out when it's released next week.

One Piece Odyssey is a role-playing game developed by ILCA and published by Bandai Namco. The game is set to be released later this year on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Nice to see One Piece getting an RPG and it looks pretty good as it reminds me a lot of Dragon Quest for some reason, I don't know why, but I got the vibes of Dragon Quest with what I've seen in this game. Looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out once it's released later this year.

Nightingale is a shared world survival-crafting game developed by Inflexion Games as the game is set to be released on PC later this year.

When I first saw this game back in Game Awards 2021, I was intrigued as the graphics looked beautiful and the gameplay looks to be a lot of fun. It seems to be similar to Minecraft in terms of crafting equipment in order to survive which is very cool. We'll see how this game will turn out when it comes out later this year.

Saints Row Boss Factory is a demo of the rebooted Saints Row game as it's available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Nice to see that the Saints Row reboot is going to get a demo to give players a feel on what the rebooted game is all about so the fact that you can customize your character is freaking awesome. From what I've played with the demo so far, it's been a lot of fun and hope to see that the final game will be like this when it launches later this year.

Gotham Knights is an action role-playing game developed by WB Games Montreal and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game is set to be released on October 25, 2022, on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC.

When the game first revealed back at a Warner Bros. Games Show back in 2020, the game looked interesting and after seeing more gameplay of it, it looks to be quite fun. We'll see if the game will deliver once it is released in four months.

The Last of Us Part I is a remake of the original The Last of Us that came out on PS3 in 2012 as it will be coming to PS5 on September 2, 2022.

Alright, I have a lot to say about this and this is how I feel about it. The Last of Us is an amazing game, but I don't feel like it needs a remake at least at this time especially when there was a remaster of this game back in 2014 on PS4 which still looks great, so I don't know why they're remaking a game that hasn't been a decade old, yet which baffles me. Naughty Dog could've just remade a gaming franchise that haven't touched in a long time like Jak & Daxter which I would love to see return, but it doesn't seem like they have any interest in it which is very disappointing. Granted, I'm pretty sure that the game will be amazing, but just disappointed that Naughty Dog would actually remake this game instead making a remake of a franchise they haven't touched in more than a decade, but that's just me. Dang you Jim Ryan for trying to go what's popular and what makes you the most money! Dang you!

Time Flies is a part open world and part flight simulator game developed by Michael Frei and Raphael Munoz as the game will be coming to Switch, PS5, and PC in 2023.

Okay, so this game is basically the player playing as a fly as you get to do whatever you want until you die. That is actually quite cool, and the time differs depending on which country the player selects so that's awesome. Looking forward to seeing how this game will play out once it's released next year.

Planet of Lana is a hand-painted puzzle adventure game developed by Wishfully Studios. The game is set to be released on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC later this year.

Once I first saw this game back in the Game Awards 2020, I was very intrigued by it as I really love the art style of the game and after seeing more of the game as well as its gameplay, I'm totally sold on it, and I can't wait to experience the game myself when it comes out later this year.

Choo-Choo Charles is an open-world horror game developed by Two Star Games as it will come to PC later this year.

A spider train chasing the player down to kill you and you have to survive and beat the spider train at the end of the game? Sounds like a lot of fun to me! Though, after seeing that trailer, it's kind of spooky and creepy so if you're into horror games, you might want to check this out. Can't wait to see how this game will turn out once it's released later this year.

Escape Academy is an escape room puzzle adventure game developed by Coin Crew Games as the game is set to be released on July 14, 2022, on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and PC.

An escape room game sounds awesome to me as I love escape rooms in real life so an actual game of it in a video game format sounds pretty fun to me. Looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out when it comes out next month.

A Little to the Left is a cozy puzzle game developed by Max Inferno as the game is coming to Switch and PC later this year.

This looks to be a fun puzzle game and the fact that a cat comes in and ruins the puzzle for you at times makes it even more challenging and frustrating when doing these puzzles. Looking forward to seeing how this game when it comes out later this year.

Bear and Breakfast is a laid-back management adventure game developed by Gummy Cat Studios as the game is set to be released on PC and Switch on July 28, 2022.

Oh man, just trying to manage my house as a bear in this game sounds great to me as it definitely seems to a relaxing game where you managed your life as a bear in the game. Looking forward to seeing how the game will turn out when it comes out next month.

ANIMAL WELL is a handcrafted surrealist pixel art survival horror puzzle video game developed by Shared Memory as the game will be on PS5 and PC with an unannounced release window at this time.

Okay, this looks to be a very cool looking Metroidvania game that I'm down for. Really liking the art style with its being old school with the pixel art as well as the music being soothing and the puzzles looking quite fun. This game has a lot of potential to be incredible and hope to see more of this game whenever we have a chance to see it.

NAIAD is an exploration adventure game developed by HiWrap as the game is set to be released on PC and consoles later this year.

I just have to say that the art style of this game looks beautiful, and the environment look beautiful as well. This seems to be a fun game in terms of exploring and adventuring as you're trying to protect the river which seems to be a fun concept to play with. Can't wait to see more of this game in the future.

Roots of Pacha is a co-op farming and life simulation game developed by Soda Den as the game is still in development, but the demo of the game is now available on PC.

This game is basically a combination of Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley into one with its own twist on it and I love it. Despite the game still being in development, a demo of the game to have players try it out is great and looking forward to the full game once it does release.

Desta: The Memories Between is a rogue-like tactical strategy game developed by Ustwo Games as it is planned for PC for an unannounced time window.

This game definitely grabbed my attention especially with the genre it has, but the story of the game seems very intriguing too with the player moving away from home for a very long time to come back and try to communicate with their distant family and friends after not meeting for so long. Very interested to see how this game will turn out and hope to see more of it in the future.

SCHiM is an adventure game developed by Ewoud van der Werf which is set to be released on PC with an unannounced release window at this time.

Playing as a schim by going through many shadows in order to survive in the game sounds a lot of fun to me. Really loving the visuals and colors of this game as it stood out compared to other indie games that were showcased here. Can't wait to see how the final product will turn out once we see more of it.

Fox and Frog Travelers: The Demon of Adashino Island is a 3D action-adventure game developed by Rias as the game is set to be released in a few years with unannounced platforms at this time.

Oh man, this game looks awesome as you play as a fox girl and you have a partner frog, that is pure awesomeness there and it looks pretty good. It looks like the game is still in development, but can't wait to see more of this game in the future once it gets more info.

Goodbye World is a narrative adventure game developed by YO FUJII and the game is set to be released on PC later this year.

Really love the art style of this game as it has that SNES and GBA look to it which I love. Plus, this game is about video games so doesn't love that?! Looking forward to seeing more of this game once it comes out later this year.

Birth is an adventure puzzle game developed by Madison Karrh as the game is set to be released on PC sometime next year.

This looks to be a very fun puzzle game that doesn't seem like it will repeat many puzzle patterns which is quite interesting. Very intrigued on how this game will turn out once it is released sometime next year.

How to Say Goodbye is a narrative puzzle game developed by Florian Veltman, Baptiste Portefaix, and ARTE France as the game is set to be released on PC later this year.

Really like the art style of this game as well as the colors as they seem very vibrant and so forth. It also looks like it will have a very intriguing story as well so we'll see how this game will turn out once it's released later this year.

Overall, this was a decent presentation for Summer Game Fest this year. We got a mixed of some really good announcements and some questionable announcements as well. In addition, the pacing of the show still needs to be worked on and didn't like the fact that they have The Rock have his own segment promoting a movie which I'm not a fan of despite loving The Rock. With E3 gone this year, Summer Game Fest had to deliver with it being the biggest gaming event of the year and even though it wasn't bad, it could've been a lot better so in a way, they kind of failed here. Despite that, I appreciate Geoff Keighley and his team for trying to bring video game companies together in one show as they've been doing that for the past few years, so I respect that of them. However, hope they can improve on this as it has potential to be the new E3 if E3 doesn't come back again, but only time will tell. Though, I will say that Days of the Dev was a very nice highlight here as I appreciate Geoff Keighley and his team showcasing indie games to a bigger audience so that was much appreciated. Regardless, hope Summer Game Fest does better next year as this year was decent as I hope it improves as time goes on.
