Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence which is a reboot of the same name that I created back in WrestleCorp. However, not only will I be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series, but also video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll be giving my thoughts on Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 23, 2022.

Before I start, not every game that was shown in this presentation will be talked about as I will mainly talk about games that I care and interested on. If the games that you care and are interested don't show up here, don't take it personally, have nothing against the games, but they're not just for me or it's just I don't have much to say about them expect cool. However, if you are happy with the games that you care and are interested on that I'm not or nothing to say about it, good for you and I'm happy for you.

Anyway, let's get started!

Now, for those who are wondering, what is Gamescom Opening Night Live? Gamescom Opening Night Live is a digital presentation hosted by Geoff Keighley and his team to hype up the biggest gaming event in Europe, Gamescom, where they showcased games, hand out awards, and show new accessories across the globe. However, I will mainly focus on the games when talking about the show. This also marks the first time that Gamescom Opening Night Live is back live in-person for the German crowd since 2019 so did the show delivered this year? Let's get to it!

Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival massively multiplayer online game developed and published by Funcom that is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC with an unannounced release date.

It's cool that the Dune series is getting its own MMO which should be very interesting. Don't know how the game will turn out, but it has potential. Hoping for the best of this game and we'll see how it turns out once it gets released.

The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game developed by Striking Distance Studios and published by Krafton. The game is set to be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, on December 2, 2022.

Seeing more gameplay of this game was great to see as this game is looking more gruesome than ever and that gore, jeez. Some of that was a bit of uncomfortable at times, but so far, this game is looking great and definitely fit that survival horror genre as well as being a spiritual successor to Dead Space. Looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out in four months.

The Lords of the Fallen is a reboot of the action role-playing game developed by CI Games that was released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC back in 2014. The reboot of the game will be coming to PC, Xbox Series X, and PS5 with an unannounced release date.

Oh wow, didn't expect a reboot of this game as this caught me off by surprise as the original game wasn't anything special. Granted, it would be great if they showed gameplay of it, but the fact that the game is getting a reboot makes me believe that this game might deliver this time and be better than the original. Only time will tell, and we'll see how this game will turn out once we get more info about it.

Moving Out 2 is the sequel to the action party simulation game developed by SMG Studios and published by Team17 as it will be coming to Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2023.

Man, this game actually looks like a lot of fun as it seems to be a fun friend and family game for multiplayer. Didn't even know that there was a first game to this so probably will check that out before playing this game. This game has my interest, and we'll see how it turns out when it releases next year.

Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game is set to be released on February 10, 2023, on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC.

Despite the author of the Harry Potter books being a transphobic, the development team for this game are doing wonders for making this game look really good as it should be a great experience for fans of Harry Potter. The Digital Pack edition of the game has some very cool features too for those who want the digital version of the game. We'll see how this game will turn out when it's released early next year.

New Tales from the Borderlands is a sequel to the choice-based narrative adventure developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games, Tales from the Borderlands which was released back in 2014. The game is set to be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC, on October 21, 2022.

Oh wow, didn't expect a sequel to Tales from the Borderlands, but this is cool to see. Though, not a fan of the name as it's similar to New Super Mario Bros. and New Pokémon Snap where I questioned why they have to add new to it instead of 2 or something. Regardless, the game does look good and we'll see how the game will turn out as it will release in two months.

Sonic Frontiers is an open zone 3D platform game developed by Sega as it will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC on November 8, 2022.

I just have to say, in the beginning when they were marketing the game for the first time, it was definitely very mixed, but the most recent trailers as of late have been nailing it and this trailer was no different as I'm more hyped for the game than ever. The Cyberspace levels continue to look great, and the story seems intriguing as well so we'll see if this 3D Sonic game will deliver when it comes out in three months.

Goat Simulator 3 is a sequel to the original Goat Simulator game developed by Coffee Stain Studios back in 2014 as it will be coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, on November 17, 2022.

Okay, as expected, this game looks fun as heck as it may seem silly and stupid, but that's what is great about it. You play as a goat and do whatever you want, who doesn't love that?! Though, still wondering where Goat Simulator 2 is, but regardless, this should be a fun game to just have a good laugh as it will come out in three months.

Return to Monkey Island is the next game in the adventure series developed by Ron Gilbert and published by Devolver Digital, Monkey Island, as it will be released on Switch and PC, on September 19, 2022.

It's still cool that there will be a new game in this series which is great to see. Not only that, if players pre-order the game now, there will be a free horse armor for the player that can be put in their inventory which is cool even if it does nothing. We'll see how this game will turn out when it comes out next month.

Moonbreaker is a turn-based strategy, tabletop tactics game developed by Unknown Worlds as it will be released on PC as it will be in early access on September 29, 2022.

This is an interesting looking game and with Brandon Sanderson being the author of this game, author of Mistborn series and the Stormlight Archive, shows me that the story might be good. Either way, we'll see how this game will turn out when it comes in early access next month.

Lies of P is an action role-playing game developed and published by Neowiz Games as it will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2023.

Man, this game looks sick as it's basically a Bloodborne inspired Soulslike with a dark take of the story of Pinocchio. Combat looks fun, graphics look amazing, and I'm very interested on how they will tell the story in this game. Looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out when it is released next year.

Homeworld 3 is a real-time strategy video game developed by Blackbird Interactive and published by Gearbox Software. The game is set to be released on PC in the first half of 2023.

The last time we saw anything from this game was back in the Game Awards 2021 and actually seeing gameplay of it, it seems to be a space shooter strategy game which is fine by me. In addition, there's a collector's edition of the game which gives out extra ships and items which is very cool. We'll see how this game will turn out when it comes out early next year.

Honkai: Star Rail is a free-to-play 3D tactical role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo as it will come to Android, iOS, and PC in the future.

Once again, no gameplay of this game which is quite unfortunate, but graphics are looking pretty cool and if it's anything like Genshin Impact, I'm on board. Hope to see more of this game in the future.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series is a graphic adventure game based on the TV series, The Expanse, developed and published by Telltale Games as it's set to be released in Summer 2023 with unannounced systems it will be on.

The last time we saw any footage of this was back in Game Awards 2021 and with the new footage along with gameplay, it looks pretty good. I have never watched The Expanse, but after seeing the game, might be interested in checking out the TV series. Regardless, we'll see how the game will turn out when it's released next year.

Age of Empires IV - Ottomans and Malians is a free update for the real-time strategy video game developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios, Age of Empires IV, and it comes out on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, on October 25, 2022.

Nice to see that the game will have a free update to the game, and we got two new civilizations with Ottomans and Malians here which is nice to see. We'll see how this new update will turn out as it will be released in two months.

Gotham Knights is an action role-playing game developed by WB Games Montreal and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game is set to be released on October 21, 2022, on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC.

Nice to see more of this game especially with the gameplay which looks pretty good. The story seems quite interesting too as well. I'm very curious on how this game will turn out as they're releasing it earlier than before which was originally October 25. It looks like Warner Bros. have high hopes for this game and we'll see if it delivers in the end as we'll get to play it in two months.

Where Winds Meet is an open world action role-playing game developed by Everstone Studios with an unannounced release date as well as what systems it will be on.

Okay, this game looks incredible. Graphics look amazing, combat and gameplay looks pretty smooth, the environments look fun to explore, and the music is nice to listen to. This reminds me of a lot of Ghost of Tsushima, but with Chinese setting which I'm totally down for. Hope to see more of this game in the future as I'm totally intrigued.

Park Beyond is a construction and management simulation game developed by Limbic Entertainment and published by Bandai Namco as it will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X. and PC in 2023.

This looks to be a fun simulation game as so far; it's reminding me a lot of Rollercoaster Tycoon which I adore those games growing up. If it's anything like that, I'll be down for it. Hope to see more of this game in the future when it comes out next year.

Dead Island 2 is the long awaiting sequel of the action role-playing game developed by Dambuster Studios and published by Deep Silver, Dead Island, which will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, on February 3, 2023.

Dang, I didn't expect a sequel to Dead Island as Dead Island was released back on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, in 2011, so that was eleven years ago. Insanity. Regardless, the game looks gory as ever and the gameplay that we got to see for the game looks like a lot of fun. Looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out when it comes out early next year.

Overall, this was a solid show for Gamescom Opening Night Live this year. As usual with Geoff Keighley's shows, they tend to have a good mix of really good announcements and some questionable announcements as well. Like that Pokémon car segment, I felt like was unnecessary and the fact that they had awards that they haven't been released yet is kind of dumb as who knows the games would be great once they release or not so that was something I questioned on. Also, as much as I love Hideo Kojima and the fact that he has a podcast is great, I felt that wasn't really necessary for the show, but that's just me. Either way, I feel like Gamescom Opening Night Live has improved ever since they first started the concept back in 2019 so we'll see if they continue to improve as time goes on.
