Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Game Awards 2023

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence, a reboot of the same name I created in WrestleCorp. However, not only will I be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series, but also video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll be giving my thoughts on the Game Awards 2023 which happened on December 7, 2023.

Before I start, not every game that was shown in this presentation will be talked about as I will mainly talk about games that I care about and am interested in. If the games you care about and are interested in don't show up here, don't take it personally, have nothing against the games, but they're not just for me or it's just that I don't have much to say about them except cool. However, if you are happy with the games that you care about and are interested in I'm not or have nothing to say about it, good for you and I'm happy for you.

Anyway, let's get started!

For those who are wondering, what is The Game Awards? You can check what it is through my thoughts on the Game Awards 2022 last year through here: Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Game Awards 2023

Anyway, let's get started!

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Remake is a remake of the adventure game developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by 505 Games that was released back on the Xbox 360 and PC in 2013. The game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, on February 28, 2024.

Oh wow, didn't expect a remake of this game as this game was really good back then so glad to see a remake of this game as it's looking great and looks to stay true to what the original is supposed to be, but with updated graphics. Looking forward to seeing more of this game in the future when it's released in two months.

Pony Island 2: Panda Circus is an adventure game developed and published by Daniel Mullins Games. The game is set to be released on PC in 2025.

It looks like the creators of Inscryption have created their next game and it's a return to the Pony Island series with a second game and it looks pretty good. I like how the game is all over the place, but I kind of like it because of that and really hope to see more of this game in the future as it'll be a while though as it won't be released until 2025.

Usual June is a third-person action-adventure game developed and published by Finji. The game is set to be released on PC in 2025.

I really like the art style of this game and the combat seems to be a lot of fun with it being action-based. The story seems quite interesting too on what they're to accomplish here and I'm very curious about how this game will turn out in the end. However, it won't be released until 2025 so hope to see more of it in the future.

Windblown is a lightning-fast action roguelike game developed by Motion Twin as the game is set to be released on PC in early 2024.

Oh wow, the creators of Dead Cells are looking to make another cool-looking action roguelike with Windblown, and no pun intended, it's blowing my mind. Really love the art style of the game and the gameplay is definitely similar to Hades in a way that I can dig for sure. Hope to see more of this game down the line when it's released early next year.

DAVE THE DIVER - DREDGE is DLC for the adventure game developed and published by MINTROCKET, DAVE THE DIVER, where it crosses over with Dredge as it'll be coming to Switch and PC on December 15, 2023.

Oh wow, didn't expect a crossover between DAVE THE DIVER and Dredge here, but that's awesome to see. Two games that actually go pretty well together and I'm really curious about how this crossover will turn out. Luckily, we don't have much to wait as the DLC will be released next week.

World of Goo 2 is the sequel to the physics-based puzzle game, developed and published by 2D Boy, World of Goo which was released back on Wii in 2008. The game is set to be released on Switch and PC in 2024.

Holy crap! I didn't expect a return to this game after fifteen years as I remember this game being quite fun and challenging back then due to it being physics-based. Either way, this is awesome as it's great to see a new game in the series, and looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out when it's released next year.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a role-playing game developed by Studio Zero and published by Atlus. The game is set to be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and PC in Fall 2024.

When this game was first announced back on the Xbox Games Showcase in June, I was really impressed with what this game looked like in terms of graphics and gameplay. In addition, with this trailer, the story and characters seem quite interesting as it's definitely a mix of Persona and Shin Megami Tensei into one, but in a fantasy world which I'm down for. Looking forward to seeing more of this game in the future when it comes out fall of next year.

EXODUS is a science fiction action-adventure role-playing game developed by Archetype Entertainment. The game is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC with no release date at this time.

I have to say that the trailer for the game has been well made as I really like the atmosphere that the game brings with it being sci-fi and the story seems quite intriguing as well. The gameplay looks quite fun too as it looks to be a third-person shooter, but probably has some character customization where it might be its own Starfield. It also brings me some Mass Effect vibes too as this game does have potential. Hope to see more of this game in the future.

God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla is DLC for the popular action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studios and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The DLC will be released on PS5 and PS4 on December 12, 2023.

Well, I was expecting DLC for this game, but I didn't expect it to be a roguelike as well as being released so soon while being free which is insane. I really like how Kratos gets new costumes in the DLC which is freaking awesome and the combat looks to be fun as ever. I can't wait to play this DLC as it'll be out next week and if you have the game already, you can download the DLC for free which is awesome.

Big Walk is a cooperative multiplayer adventure game developed by House House and published by Panic Inc. The game is set to be released on PC in 2025.

Holy crap, didn't expect the creators of Untitled Goose Game to be developing a new game and this game looks to be quite fun. The models of the characters look silly, but in a good way with a very good art style and it seems to have a lot of charm as well where you can play with friends or people online. Looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out when it comes out in 2025.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is an action-adventure game developed by Ninja Theory and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game is set to be released on Xbox Series X and PC in 2024.

Glad to see that this game finally has a release year. Granted, it's not a release date or anything, but at least we know what year the game will be coming out unless it gets delayed, but we'll see. Also, glad to see more gameplay for this game as the action combat is still there and the music in this game is pretty fire I will admit. Looking forward to seeing more of this game in the future when it comes out next year.

No Rest for the Wicked is an action role-playing game developed by Moon Studios and published by Private Division where the game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on March 1, 2024.

The fact that this game is being made by the creators of the Ori series really got my attention as this game looks great. It definitely has a different art style compared to the Ori series, but it still looks great. The combat is also different compared to the Ori series, but it looks to be a lot more fun with it being more action-based. Very curious to see how this game will turn out and hope to see more of the game when it comes out next year.

Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi are getting new games developed by Sega as they are currently in development.

Holy crap! Sega is planning to revive their old IPs with new games?! Unbelievable! Granted, I knew that a new Jet Set Radio game was in development, but didn't expect them to also develop a new Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi game, like what the heck?! Granted, these games are in development, but the fact that they're happening is freaking awesome, and glad to see Sega reviving their old IPs. Really hope these games do well when they're done being developed.

DRAGON BALL: Sparking ZERO! is a fighting game developed by Spike Chunsoft and published by Bandai Namco. The game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC with an unannounced release date.

We got a tease of the game earlier this year, but to now finally see the game in action is awesome. It looks like the game is getting rebranded from Budokai Tenkaichi to Sparking which I'm fine with. Either way, this game is Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 and it's looking fantastic as the art style is ripping straight out from the manga and anime which I love. Looking forward to seeing how this game will do and hope to see more of it in the future.

Visions of Mana is an action-adventure game developed and published by Square Enix where the game will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2024.

Holy crap, we got ourselves a new Mana game! Granted, I heard rumors that a new Mana game was in development, but to actually see it here is incredible to see. It also actually looks pretty good as it still has that art style that Mana is well known for and the gameplay looks similar to the Trails of Mana remake so as long as they improve from that game, I think we're in for a treat. Glad to see Square Enix reviving the Mana series and looking forward to seeing more of this game when it comes out next year.

Rise of the Rōnin is an action role-playing game developed by Team Ninja and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is set to be released on PS5 on March 22, 2024.

The last time we saw any footage of this game was back at the PlayStation State of Play in September of last year and it looked incredible then. Looking at the new trailer for the game, it continues to look great as the game reminds me a lot of Nioh. The gameplay looks to be a lot of fun as it's fast-paced and the story seems very interesting too with an incredible world to explore it seems like. Can't wait to see more of this game when it's released in three months.

OD is a one-of-a-kind experience game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Xbox Games Studio. The game is set to be released on Xbox Series X with an unannounced release date.

Well, there were rumors that Kojima Productions was making a game for Xbox and it turned out to be this game which looks quite interesting. It definitely has some Silent Hill vibes in terms of creepiness and being very unsettling which I think is the game that it's going for here. Plus, the fact that this game is going to be like a movie in some kind of fashion should be quite interesting as well so I'm very curious to see how this game will turn out and hope to hear more about it in the future.

Jurassic Park: Survival is a survival horror game developed and published by Saber Interactive as the game will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC with an unannounced release date.

Holy crap, it's the canceled game that is brought back to life! I remember that this game was supposed to come out, but it got canceled back then. However, it looks like this game has been revived and it looks quite interesting being a first-person survival horror game which should be scary and fun at the same time. Very shocked to see this here and it looks great too. Hope to see more of this game in the future.

Black Myth: Wukong is an action role-playing game developed and published by Game Science as the game is set to be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X on August 20, 2024.

We saw this game back at Summer Game Fest earlier this year as we finally got a release date for the game and it continues to look incredible. I really like that this game is based on ancient China and the gameplay looks very smooth as the enemy and boss designs look incredible as well. I really can't wait to experience this game when I have the chance as it comes out within eight months.

Tales of Kenzera: Zau is a platformer developed by Surgent Studios and published by Electronic Arts. The game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC on April 23, 2024.

I have to say that I really like the art style of this game as it's definitely beautiful and colorful which I like. Also, I really like what I've seen with the gameplay of this game being fast-paced with its platforming and so forth which should be a lot of fun. The story seems intriguing as well so I hope to see more of this game in the future when it comes out in four months.

The First Berserker: Khazan is a hardcore action role-playing game developed by Neople and published by Nexon. The game is set to be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X with an unannounced release date.

After seeing the trailer of this game, it definitely has my interest as it looks to be a mix of God of War and Dark Souls combined which is something I'm totally down for. I really like the art style of this game and the combat looks very smooth as well. Really hope to see more of this game in the future as it looks like a lot of fun to play.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix where the game will be released on PS5 on February 29, 2024.

I know that I have said this numerous times, but I still can't wait for this game as it continues to look incredible and I keep getting hyped for it. What they showed in this trailer makes me question a lot about what's going to happen here as the story is definitely not going to be the same compared to the original. Granted, the main points of the story will still be there, but I'm very curious about how they arranged it to make it interesting for veterans and newcomers to Final Fantasy VII alike. Also, Gold Saucer parts of the game continue to look great and we finally got Cid who also looks great too. Just only two more months of this game and I can't wait to experience it.

Marvel's Blade is an action-adventure game developed by Arkane Lyon and published by Bethesda. The game is coming to Xbox Series X and PC with an unannounced release date.

Wow! Didn't expect a Blade game and the fact that this game is being made by the developers of the Dishonored series and Deathloop is quite interesting as well. It's quite disappointing that this trailer didn't have any gameplay, but from the interview that Geoff Keighley did with Arkane Lyon seems interesting as it'll be a third-person action-adventure game so we'll see how that turns out and hope to see more of it in the future.

Zenless Zone Zero is a free-to-play urban fantasy action role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo as the game will be released on PC in 2024.

This game looks to be really great and it's probably going to be different compared to Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail in terms of gameplay as it seems to be more of a hack-and-slash with RPG elements to it, but I could be wrong. Either way, it looks great, and hope to see more of it soon when it comes out next year.

Light No Fire is an action-adventure game developed and published by Hello Games where the game is set to be released on PC with an unannounced release date.

The fact that this game is being developed by an indie studio is very impressive. This is pretty much an open-world game that looks to be a combination of both Skyrim and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild into one which is insane. It has a very beautiful art style and I still can't believe that an indie studio is making this game. Either way, looking forward to seeing more of this game in the future.

Final Fantasy XVI Expansion Pass is DLC for the action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix. Echoes of the Fallen is available now on PS5 while The Rising Tide will be released on PS5 in Spring 2024.

I knew that Final Fantasy XVI was going to have DLC and it's great to see finally see it and it looks incredible. The fact that Echoes of the Fallen is available now is awesome and The Rising Tide looks to be great as well. It looks like that's where we'll get Leviathan in the game which is nice. Looking forward to trying and playing the DLC with Echoes of the Fallen being available now and The Rising Tide releasing next spring.

Monster Hunter Wilds is an action role-playing game developed and published by Capcom as the game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2025.

Holy crap, we're getting another Monster Hunter game and it looks incredible. The Monster Hunter games as of late continue to expand as of late in terms of how big the locales are and with Monster Hunter Wilds, it looks to be no different. This seems to be like another Monster Hunter World and if that's the case, I'm totally down for this game. Looking forward to seeing more of this game in the future when it comes out in two years.

Overall, this was a great show by Geoff Keighley and his team. The game announcements and trailers were definitely the best part of the show as they definitely delivered on that front where there was definitely something for everyone in terms of genres on both the big AAA companies as well as the independent studios so hands off to them. In addition, I feel like the winners of the awards this year were pretty well-balanced and even. Sure, there were a couple of awards that went to Alan Wake II and Baldur's Gate III, but at least they didn't win every single category they're in unlike The Last of Us Part II in the Game Awards 2020. However, I will admit that I'm quite disappointed with how short the speeches were as I feel like they were definitely rushed and they should've gotten more time to speak but didn't. It's quite a shame too since some of the speeches from the winners were quite emotional and inspirational, but they got cut off pretty quick due to their time limiting which is unfortunate. Hope to see the awards' aspect improve for next year's Game Awards, but in terms of game announcements and trailers, they nailed it here and I hope they continue to improve heading into next year.
