Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Indie World Showcase 4.19.2023

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence, a reboot of the same name I created in WrestleCorp. However, not only will I be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series, but also video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll be giving my thoughts on the Indie World Showcase that happened on April 19, 2023.

Before I start, not every game that was shown in this presentation will be talked about as I will mainly talk about games that I care about and am interested in. If the games you care about and are interested in don't show up here, don't take it personally, have nothing against the games, but they're not just for me or it's just that I don't have much to say about them expect cool. However, if you are happy with the games that you care about and are interested in that I'm not or nothing to say about it, good for you and I'm happy for you.

Anyway, let's get started!

In this edition of Indie World, it will cover indie games that will come out on Switch later this year and next year.

Let's get to it!

Mineko's Night Market is a narrative-driven social simulation adventure game developed by Meowza Games and published by Humble Bundle as it will be released on Switch on September 26, 2023.

This looks to be a fun game filled with charm due to its art style and music which reminds me a lot of Animal Crossing which isn't a bad thing at all. Very interested to see how this game will turn out when it comes out on Switch in five months.

My Time at Sandrock is a role-playing adventure game developed and published by Pathea as it will be coming to Switch this summer.

This game is pretty much a sequel to My Time at Portia which is also a pretty good game so glad to see Pathea make a sequel of it with a setting in a desert which is quite interesting. Very interested to see how the narrative will turn out in this one and if it's anything like My Time at Portia, we're in for a treat. Looking forward to My Time at Sandrock on Switch this summer.

PlateUp! is a roguelike management simulation game developed by It's happening and published by The Yogscast as it will be released on Switch in October 2023.

Remembering seeing this game on PC as it looks to be Overcooked, but with its own style especially with the roguelike elements which makes it very interesting. We'll see how this game does on Switch when it's released in six months.

Quilts & Cats of Calico is a digital adaptation of the award-winning puzzle board game, Calico, developed and published by Monster Couch as it will be coming to Switch this fall.

Despite never playing Calico myself, I heard many great things about this puzzle board game so it's cool to see a digital adaptation of this game coming to Switch in a wholesome way by adding cats to it as people will love that. We'll see how this digital adaptation of this game will turn out as it comes out this fall.

Rift of the NecroDancer is a rhythm game developed and published by Brace Yourself Games as it will be coming to Switch later this year.

Really enjoyed Crypt of the NecroDancer as well as Cadence of Hyrule so seeing another game from Brace Yourself Games with Rift of the NecroDancer is great. This looks to be a fun rhythm game mixed with boss battles and mini-games which should be a lot of fun. Looking forward to playing this game when it comes to Switch later this year.

A Little to the Left: Cupboards & Drawers is DLC for the puzzle game, A Little to the Left, developed by Max Inferno and published by Secret Mode as it will be released on Switch this June.

Glad to see this game having DLC as it's just a nice, relaxing, and cozy game to play to keep your mind off of things and just organize. More puzzles to solve with drawers in this DLC and we'll see how it turns out when it's released on Switch in two months.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon Puzzler's Pack is DLC for the dungeon crawler puzzle game, Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon,  developed and published by Yacht Club Games as it will be coming to Switch this spring.

Really glad to see this game getting some additional content including two playable characters in Mona and Puzzle Knight as well as being able to purchase new hats and new relics in the game. Looking forward to the DLC of this game on Switch when it comes out this spring.

Cult of the Lamb Relics of the Old Faith is DLC for the roguelike game, Cult of the Lamb, developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital as it will be released on Switch on April 24, 2023.

To me, Cult of the Lamb was one of my favorite indie games from last year so nice to see that this game is getting DLC which is awesome as it looks to be challenging and fun. Looking forward to seeing how this DLC will turn out when it comes out next week.

Animal Well is a Metroidvania developed by Shared Memory and published by Bigmode as it will be coming to Switch in early 2024.

This game was announced back at Summer Game Fest last year at Days of the Devs as I had an interest then, but seeing more of the gameplay of this game really made me sold on it. Also, it was cool to see Dunkey from videogamedunkey make an appearance here to promote the game. Granted, despite my few issues with him, his being here to promote the game will have this game probably do wonders so looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out early next year.

Crime O'Clock is an investigation and time exploration game developed by Bad Seed and published by Just For Games as it will be released on Switch on June 30, 2023.

This is pretty much Clue the board game, but with a different setting and have mini-games in between which is awesome to see. This looks to be a fun game and I'm interested to see how this game will turn out when it comes out in two months.

Teslagrad 2 & Teslagrad Remastered are physics-based games in the Teslagrad series as they are available now on Switch.

Holy crap, what a shadow drop here! I didn't expect this, but I remember enjoying Teslagrad from what I've played of it, and seeing it being remastered with new challenges being added to it along with a new game to the series is awesome. Looking forward to trying these games out on Switch as they're available now.

Shadows Over Loathing is a role-playing game developed and published by Asymmetric as the digital version of the game is available right now on Switch while the physical version will be released this fall.

I heard great things about this game when it was released on PC last year as it seems to be a very intriguing RPG with a very cool art style and a very intriguing story. Looking forward to trying out this game once I get the chance as it's available now digitally and will come to Switch physically this fall.

Blasphemous 2 is a Metroidvania developed by The Game Kitchen and published by Team17 as the game will be released on Switch this summer.

Oh wow, didn't expect a new Blasphemous game, but this is awesome. I really enjoyed the first one as it was a very tough Metroidvania, but yet very fun at the same time. If you want some challenging Metroidvania games, Blasphemous 2 might be one for you, and would recommend trying out the first game if you haven't already. Looking forward to playing this game when it comes out this summer.

OXENFREE II: Lost Signals is a narrative adventure game developed by Night School Studio and published by Netflix as it will be coming to Switch on July 12, 2023.

The last time we saw anything from this game was two years ago at an Indie World Showcase in April 2021 so it's great to see more of this game after two years. Not only that, the game looks to be great as I did enjoy the first game from what I remembered playing so looking forward to seeing how this sequel will turn out when it is released in three months.

Little Kitty, Big City is an adventure game developed and published by Double Dagger Studio as it will be coming to Switch in 2024.

Oh my god, when I first saw the trailer, I immediately think of Stray and Untitled Goose Game which looks to be a combination of both which I think is awesome. This game has the potential to be a lot of fun so very curious to see how this game will turn out when it is released next year.

Brotato is a top-down arena shooter roguelike game developed and published by Blobfish as it will be coming to Switch later this year.

This was another game that I heard a lot of great things about as it definitely has that old-school top-down arena shooter you would get in the arcades which I can appreciate and enjoy. Looking forward to trying this game myself on Switch when it comes out later this year.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is an adventure platformer developed and published by Team Reptile and it will be released on Switch on August 18, 2023.

I've been waiting for the release date for this game ever since the first time we saw it back two years ago as it reminds me so much of Jet Set Radio and any reference to that game is always a plus. This has the potential to be a really good adventure platformer as I hope it delivers when it is released in four months.

Overall, this was a good presentation from Nintendo. As always in my opinion, they tend to show a good variety of games of different genres in these presentations where there's something for everyone to play no matter who you are and I always appreciate that when it comes to Indie World Showcases. I hope that they can keep it up and looking forward to the next one in the future.
