Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Pokémon Presents | 8.8.2023

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence, a reboot of the same name I created in WrestleCorp. However, not only will I be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series, but also video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll be giving my thoughts on Pokémon Presents which happened on August 8, 2023.

Before I start, not every game that was shown in this presentation will be talked about as I will mainly talk about games that I care about and am interested in. If the games you care about and are interested in don't show up here, don't take it personally, have nothing against the games, but they're not just for me or it's just that I don't have much to say about them except cool. However, if you are happy with the games that you care about and are interested in that I'm not or nothing to say about it, good for you and I'm happy for you.

Anyway, let's get started!

This Pokémon Presents will showcase what Pokémon will have in store for us throughout the end of the year as well as next year so let's get to it!

Detective Pikachu Returns is the sequel to the adventure game developed by Creatures Inc. and published by Nintendo, Detective Pikachu, a game released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2016. The game is set to be released on October 6, 2023.

We got the announcement of this game back in the June Nintendo Direct earlier this year as we got more of a story trailer with that one. This one, however, it's a mix of a story and gameplay trailer which I appreciate and like here. This game is pretty much similar to a visual novel in terms of the adventure side where players have to find clues to solve mysteries so if you enjoy those types of games, you'll enjoy this one. Plus, this is pretty much a sequel to the first game on the Nintendo 3DS which I'm surprised that they didn't try to port the first game on Switch. Maybe they'll do it down the line, but we'll see. Either way, looking forward to playing this game in two months.

Pokémon Trading Card Game and Pokémon Stadium 2 will be coming to Nintendo Switch Online as Pokémon Trading Card Game will be coming to the GameBoy app while Pokémon Stadium 2 will be coming to the Nintendo 64 app as they're available now.

Oh my god, yes, finally! We finally got release dates for when these games are dropping on NSO and they're available now which is awesome. If you have never played these games before, I would recommend doing so as they're different from mainline Pokémon games, but also fun in their own way and it's great to see these games on Switch as well. Either way, can't wait to replay these games once I get to it and those who haven't played these games yet will do so as well.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is a DLC expansion for the role-playing game that Game Freak, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet developed. The DLC expansion will have Part 1 with The Teal Mask and Part 2 with The Indigo Disk. Part 1 will be released on September 13, 2023, while Part 2 will be released in Winter 2023.

This was expected, but it was great to see more gameplay for these games as it looks to expand upon the world of Paldea. Part 1: The Teal Mask is coming out next month and it looks to be good as the new Pokémon they've shown here is quite interesting. I like how Dipplin is another form of Applin in Paldea which is awesome. The new legendary Pokémon with Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti have pretty cool designs. The new area in Kitakami is pretty much Japan so that's pretty cool and should be fun to explore as it has its own minigames for players to play as well as its own exclusive food and characters so I'm excited to see how that part will turn out. Part 2: The Indigo Disk seems to be its own area separate from Kitakami from Part 1: The Teal Mask as it takes place in Blueberry Academy which seems to be an academy in the ocean which is quite cool. This part will have its own Elite Four in the form of the BB League and the character designs for the BB League look quite cool. Also, the fact that Duraludon has its own new evolution in Archaludon is awesome. Plus, they got their own minigames just like with Part 1: The Teal Mask so that's great to see. This DLC expansion for Pokémon Scarlet/Violet looks to be expansive and looking forward to playing Part 1: The Teal Mask starting next month and hope to see more with Part 2: The Indigo Disk in the future.

Overall, this was a good presentation from the Pokémon Company. This presentation was definitely a lot better than the previous one we have, but definitely felt like it was a bit longer than it should be. In addition, there wasn't anything new as it was information that we've gotten before, but more detailed which is appreciated. As expected, they gave more details about the Pokémon World Championships that were happening that week in Yokohama, Japan, but I feel like it could've been shortened a bit. However, I understand why they have to advertise it the way they did. The new animated series we're getting with Pokémon is huge with Pokémon Path to the Peak, Pokémon Horizons, and Pokémon: Paldean Winds which all look great in their own way so looking forward to watching those when they're available. In addition, I also expected updates on the mobile games as well as the ongoing games that they have like Pokémon Go, Pokémon Unite, Pokémon Masters EX, Pokémon Café ReMix, and Pokémon Sleep which are pretty cool. Also, getting Mew for free in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet is awesome while also getting Mewtwo if you beat him in a Tera Raid battle in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet is awesome as well. This definitely seems like a slow year for Pokémon this year, but we'll see how they do heading into next year.
