Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Summer Game Fest 2024

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence, a reboot of the same name I created in WrestleCorp. However, not only will I be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series, but also video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll give my thoughts on Summer Game Fest on June 7, 2024.

Before I start, not every game that was shown in this presentation will be talked about as I will mainly talk about games that I care about and am interested in. If the games you care about and are interested in don't show up here, don't take it personally, have nothing against the games, but they're just not for me or it's just I don't have much to say about them except cool. However, if you're happy with the games that you care about and are interested in I have nothing to say about it, good for you and I'm happy for you.

Anyway, let's get started!

If you're wondering what Summer Game Fest is, you can check that out with my thoughts on last year's show here: Summer Game Fest 2023 Thoughts

With E3 officially gone, Summer Game Fest is pretty much the biggest gaming show of the summer so did they deliver this year? In addition, will also be talking about Days of the Devs and Devolver Direct as some beautiful indie games should be talked about as well, giving them a spotlight here.

Let's get to it!

LEGO Horizon Adventures is an action-adventure game developed by Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is set to be released on PS5, Switch, and PC in Holiday 2024.

Wait, what?! We're getting a LEGO Horizon game?! Didn't expect that. It actually looks quite fun and the fact that this game is also coming to Switch when Horizon is a PlayStation IP is insane. Very curious to see how this game will turn out and play once it comes out to PS5, Switch, and PC this holiday.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is a sports game developed by Unbroken Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games. The game is set to be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on September 3, 2024.

Dang, didn't expect a new Harry Potter game here, but we got one, and the fact that this game is based on Quidditch is quite cool. It looks to be a lot of fun with co-op and very curious to see how this game will turn out. Looking forward to the game when it's released in three months.

CUFFBUST is an escape room game developed and published by 2 Star Games where the game is set to be released on PC in 2025.

Very cool to see that the developer of Choo Choo Charles, only one person, by the way, is making a game like this where it's pretty much an escape room game with co-op with a lot of personality and charm with its characters. It looks like it'll be a while until the release date of the game, but looking forward to seeing more once it's released next year.

Star Wars Outlaws is an action-adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on August 30, 2024.

After seeing more of the gameplay of the game, it definitely has a lot of potential. With the game being open-world and so forth, it's incredible to see how much progress they've made since the last time we saw it last year which is a lot of progress. Though, we'll see if the game will actually deliver or not once the game is released in two months.

Neva is an emotionally charged action-adventure game developed by Nomada Studio and published by Devolver Digital. The game is set to be released on PC, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X in 2024.

The last time we saw this game was back at the PlayStation Showcase last year and the fact that the developers of GRIS are making another game with a similar art style is awesome. Really like the combat in this game, but I think the adventure aspect of this game will be very interesting for me as the graphics in this game are quite beautiful. Hope to see more of this game in the future when it comes out to all consoles this year.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII is a turn-based strategy 4X game developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K. The game is set to be released on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Switch in 2025.

Very cool to see that the next game within the Civilization series is coming out and it's coming out a lot sooner than expected. Very curious to see what they did with the franchise this time around and what changes they will make compared to Civilization VI. Hope to see more of this game soon down the line once it's released next year.

Black Myth: Wukong is an action role-playing game developed and published by Game Science. The game is set to be released on PS5 and PC on August 20, 2024.

Even though we didn't see new gameplay of the game which is disappointing, I'm still excited and hyped for this game as it looks amazing in terms of its graphics and gameplay. Also, the deluxe and collector's edition of this game looks fire. Really hope this game turns out well and looking forward to playing it when it comes out in two months.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a role-playing game developed by Studio Zero and published by Atlus. The game is set to be released on Xbox Series X and PC on October 11, 2024.

Every time I see this game, the more I get impressed by it as it's definitely something different from the Shin Megami Tensei and Persona games but still feels similar in some ways which I appreciate. The fact that this game has over 40 archetypes of what the player wants their characters to be is very cool. Always enjoy having class systems in JRPGs and the fact that we're getting one from Atlus is quite awesome. I'm looking forward to the final product of the game when it comes out in four months.

Street Fighter 6 is a fighting game developed and published by Capcom. The next wave of DLC for Street Fighter 6 is coming in the second year which includes Fatal Fury's Terry, Fatal Fury's Mai, Elena, and M. Bison.

Holy crap! The next set of DLC fighters coming to Street Fighter 6 is huge with these four characters. Glad to see Fatal Fury characters coming to Street Fighter as it's like Capcom Vs. SNK again which is awesome. Plus, the return of Elena and M. Bison is also huge. Can't wait to see how four will look in the game and see how they play as we'll probably get more information on them shortly.

Tears of Metal is a medieval hack-and-slash co-op roguelike game developed and published by Paper Cult where the game is set to be released on PC in the future.

I have to say that I really like the art style of this game as it has that medieval cartoon style which is nice to see. Combat looks to be fun as it's pretty much a musou game and I'm down with musou games. The fact that this game also has co-op and is a roguelike is quite interesting as well. Looking forward to seeing more of this game in the future.

DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO is a fighting game developed by Spike Chunsoft and published by Bandai Namco. The game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on October 11, 2024.

Every time I see new trailers for this game, the more I get hyped about it as it looks incredible. This game looks like it came out of a manga/anime which is insane. It also looks like the story mode is quite interesting too with it going different multiple paths as I'm curious to see how that will turn out. I can't wait to play this game once it comes out in four months.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a fighting game developed and published by SNK. The game is set to be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and PC in early 2025.

It's so great to see a new Fatal Fury game in twenty-six years which is insane, but I'm glad that it's finally coming. The art style for this game looks great and great to see characters like J. Benet and Vox Reaper making their return to the series as well after so long. Great to see Fatal Fury back and hope that this will mark for more Fatal Fury games to come in the future as I'm looking forward to playing it early next year.

Crisol: Theater of Idols, Grave Seasons, SLEEP AWAKE, Fear The Spotlight, The Simulation, and Project C will be games that Blumhouse Games will be publishing in the future.

It's very interesting to see that Blumhouse is starting to get into the video game industry after their work with horror movies with Five Nights at Freddy's as it looks like they'll be publishing horror indie games which I support. Very cool to see that Blumhouse Games will be giving these horror indie games a chance to shine and we'll see how they turn out once they're released.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind is a beat 'em up developed and published by Digital Eclipse where it will be released on PC in the future.

Wait what?! We're getting a retro beat 'em up Mighty Morphin Power Rangers game?! What?! Now that's awesome. Love the sprite work they did here and it's not just beat 'em up, but there were also minigames in there too with shooters and so forth which is awesome. This was a huge surprise here and I can't wait to see more of this game in the future.

Deer & Boy is a poetic cinematic platformer developed and published by Lifeline Games where it will be coming to PC in the future.

This looks to be a fun platformer as I really enjoyed the art style of this game. I also enjoy the music in this game too which seems quite sad as I have a feeling I'll feel emotional playing this game. Either way, I'm very intrigued by how this game will turn out and looking forward to seeing it more in the future.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is an action role-playing game developed by Warhorse Studios and published by Deep Silver. The game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2024.

This game has been in development for a while now, but glad to see that this game is finally coming out as it'll be coming out this year. It's been six years since the first game and they've made many improvements with the first game while still having that charm and personality from the great first game. Looking forward to the game when it comes out sometime this year.

Slitterhead is an action-adventure game developed and published by Bokeh Game Studio Inc. where it will be released on Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5, and PC on November 8, 2024.

Ever since they showed this game back at the Game Awards 2021, I've been intrigued by it since this game is developed by the former Gravity Rush and Silent Hill developer and it's definitely a lot different compared to Gravity Rush, but similar to Silent Hill which I'm down for. This game definitely has Silent Hill vibes mixed with superpowers which I'm totally down for. Hope to see more of this game in the future when it comes out in five months.

Cairn is an adventure game developed and published by The Game Bakers where the game is set to be released on PC in the future.

This looks to be a very interesting adventure game as it's basically a rock-climbing game that is similar to real-life rock-climbing. This game definitely seems to be stressful if you want to reach the top, but that's how real-life rock-climbing works so they did a good job with the physics in this game. Looking forward to seeing how the full game turns out once it's released in the future.

Wanderstop is a simulation game developed by Ivy Road and published by Annapurna Interactive. The game is set to be released on PS5 and PC in 2024.

This looks to be a fun and relaxing simulation game as it looks to be a combination of a life and farming simulator which should be interesting to see. The art style looks quite nice and the story that they have here is quite interesting as well. I'm very curious to see how the final game will turn out once it comes out later this year.

Unknown 9: Awakening is an action-adventure game developed by Reflector Entertainment and published by Bandai Namco. The game is set to be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC in Fall 2024.

This game looks pretty cool as I really like the art style of this game and the gameplay looks a lot of fun to play as well. The story that they have here is quite interesting and I'm very curious to see how this game will turn out as it will be released later this fall.

Mars First Logistics, Battle Suit Aces, Mossfield Archives, ONE BTN Bosses, Rogue Eclipse, and Project Dosa will be games that Outersloth will be publishing in the future.

It's very cool to see that Innersloth, the developer for Among Us, are being publishers for a lot of indie games which I support and appreciate. Really hope this does well for everyone involved and looking forward to trying out the games once they come out.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is a platformer developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. The game is set to be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC on October 25, 2024.

We finally got a release date for the game and it looks very good as usual as they pretty much kept what made the game special in the first place with updated graphics which I appreciate. Also, the new Shadow levels in this game look so cool and the fact that Shadow can grow wings in this game is insane and I love it. Looking forward to replaying this game with the Shadow levels as it'll be coming out to all consoles in four months.

Battle Aces is a real-time strategy game developed and published by Uncapped Games where the game will be released on PC in the future.

This looks to be a very interesting and fun real-time strategy game and the fact that there is a lot of customization with the mechs you have in this game is quite cool. The fact that you can finish one game within ten minutes is quite interesting for a real-time strategy game which tend to take a while. Very curious to see how the game will turn out once it's released in the future.

THE FINALS Season 3 is a free-to-play first-person shooter developed and published by Embark Studios. Season 3 will be released on PC on June 13, 2024.

We got some ninjas and samurais in this next patch of the game which is quite cool as the game continues to expand. Even though this game is not really my thing per say, I'm glad that this game is still getting support and we'll see how long Embark Studios will support it. Until then, hope the next update goes well once it's released next week.

Alan Wake II: Night Springs is DLC for the survival horror game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing. The DLC is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on June 8, 2024.

Nice to see that this game is getting DLC and the fact that they got Sam Lake, director of Alan Wake II, to announce that the game will get a physical release is awesome. The DLC will have three episodes and they all have characters we're familiar with including Jesse from Control is awesome. I guess that means that Alan Wake and Control are in the same universe which is cool. Looking forward to trying out this DLC as it's out tomorrow and probably out right now if you're reading this later.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is an action strategy game developed and published by Capcom where the game will be released on Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, PS5, and PS4 on July 19, 2024.

This game was announced back at the Xbox Games Showcase last year as it was one of the standout games from that showcase as its art style is so beautiful and unique. The game looks to be quite interesting too as it's an action game mixed with strategy elements which is quite cool. Looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out once it comes out next month.

Palworld is an action-adventure, survival, and monster-taming game developed and published by Pocketpair. The Sakurajima update will be coming to Xbox Series X and PC on June 27, 2024.

The game that took the world by storm for a bit is now getting a new update which is Sakurajima which looks to be Japan which is cool. We got new pals, a new island to explore, a new boss, a new raid, etc. It looks like this game will continue to get support and we'll see how this update will turn out as it'll be released in a few weeks.

Valorant is a free-to-play first-person tactical hero shooter developed and published by Riot Games. The game is set to be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X this year with a free beta test on June 14, 2024.

This game has been out on PC for four years now, but it's finally coming to consoles after so long as they're having a beta test on the game starting next week. Even though I don't really play Valorant a lot, it's very cool to see that this game is finally coming to consoles after four years where people can get to experience it which is great. Though, I feel like they shouldn't have a long segment as it did as it was a bit too much for me, but understand why. Either way, we'll see how the game will turn out on consoles when it comes to PS5 and Xbox Series X sometime this year.

Monster Hunter Wilds is an action role-playing game developed and published by Capcom where the game will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2025.

We saw more footage of this game back at the PlayStation State of Play last week as we got more here as the game continues to look amazing. The story in this game seems to be quite interesting and the character designs with some of the side characters look quite good too. Love the atmosphere that they have with this version of Monster Hunter as it looks to be more of Monster Hunter World which I'm fine with. Looking forward to seeing more of this game and can't wait to play it when it comes out next year.

Phantom Blade 0 is an action-adventure game developed and published by S-GAME where the game will be released on PS5 in the future.

We saw this game back at the PlayStation Showcase last year as it looked incredible and it continues to look amazing here. The combat in this game look so smooth with the parries and the actual action looks intense. Also, love the boss designs they have here as well. Very cool to see that this game will have demos within the events they have for the next few months so looking forward to the final product when it comes out to PS5 down the line.

Battle Vision Network is an online PvP puzzle-battler developed and published by Cabybar Games where it will be coming to PC in 2025.

Wow, didn't expect the developers of Grindstone to make a spiritual successor to Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, but it looks great. Love the art style of the game and the gameplay is pretty much similar to Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes with its own flavor to it which is quite cool. Looking forward to seeing more of this game in the future when it comes out next year.

Petal Runner is a role-playing game developed by Nano Park Studios and published by iam8bit Presents. The game is set to be released on PC in the future.

Looking at this game, it gives old school Pokémon on the Game Boy vibes which I like a lot. In a way, this is pretty much of an adevnture game where you ride your bike everywhere in a cool setting which I can dig. Really like the pixel art style for this game a lot. This is definitely a game on my radar and looking forward to seeing more of it in the future.

Karma: The Dark World is a first-person cinematic psychological thriller horror game developed and published by POLLARD STUDIO LLC where the game will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in the future.

Man, the graphics in this game look quite good and very creepy as well. Love the atmopshere that this game has as it's really dark as it should be since this is a horror game and the story seems quite interesting as well. Very curious to see how this game will turn out in the end and hope to see more of it in the future.

Koira is an adventure game developed by Studio Tolima and published by DON'T NOD. The game is set to be released on PC in the future with a demo released this summer.

This game looks to be very charming and cozy in terms of the player just spending time with their pet which is nice. The fact that this game is hand drawn with the art style as well as the music being made as well is quite impressive. This game looks to be very chill and looking forward to seeing how the game turns out once it's released and we got a demo to try out in the summer as well.

Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure is a puzzle adventure game developed and published by Furniture Mattress LLC where it will be coming to PS5, Switch, and PC on July 25, 2024.

We saw this game back at the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase in February this year so we finally got more details on the game along with the release date which is great. The story in this game is quite interesting too, but the puzzles in this game are definitely what intrigues me. Looking forward to trying this game out once it's released next month.

Zoochosis is a bodycam horror game developed and published by Clapperheads where the game will be released on PC in the future.

Man, this game is creepy as heck as certain animals will turn into monsters when being infected. The fact that this is somewhat a survival horror game is quite fascinating to me and I love the concept of it as well. Very curious to see how this game will turn out in the end and hope to see more of it down the line.

Psychroma is an adventure game developed and published by Rocket Adrift where the game will be released on PC in the future.

This game definitely looks interesting as its art style is very unique as the art style is similar to paintings in some ways which I dig. In addition, the game seems to have an interesting story as well with a protagonist that has amnesia who is non-binary and biracial. Very cool. Hope to see more of this game in the future.

A Little to the Left: Seeing Stars is DLC for the puzzle game developed by Max Inferno and published by Secret Mode. The DLC is set to be released on Xbox Series X, PC, PS5, PS4, and Switch on June 25, 2024.

Great to see that this game is getting more DLC in the future as this is just a nice relaxing cozy game to play. The puzzles continue to be fun and the rewards continue to arise within this DLC which is nice to see. Looking forward to trying this DLC out once it's released in a few weeks.

Hello Again is a puzzling adventure game developed and published by Soup Island. The game is set to be released on PC in 2025.

Really like the concept of this game as it's basically a combination of Outer Wilds and Animal Crossing which is something I can get behind. This looks to be another cozy game while getting to explore which is nice. Really hope to see more of this game in the future once it's released next year.

Afterlove EP is an adventure game developed by Pikselnesia and published by Fellow Traveller. The game is set to be released on PC, Switch, Xbox Series X, PS5, and PS4 in October 2024.

This game was in development for a quite a while and great to see that the game will be close to be released. Really like the art style of this game as well as liking the story of the game where it becomes even more impactful due to the developers' history when making this game and the unfortunate passing of one of their colleagues when developing the game. Really looking forward to the final product and the music sounds great too as it comes out possibly in four months time.

Tides of Tomorrow is a narrative adventure game developed by Digixart and published by Deep Silver. The game is set to be released on PC in the future.

It looks like the creators of Road 96 are making a new game in Tides of Tomorrow as it looks pretty good. The game seems to have an interesting story where players get to decide on what path they want to choose to continue the story in any way they want which is quite awesome. Looking forward to seeing more of this game in the future once it's released.

Cult of the Lamb | Unholy Alliance is DLC for the roguelite game developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital. The DLC is set to be released on PS5, PS4, Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC on August 12, 2024.

Oh wow, we're getting more DLC for Cult of the Lamb which is awesome. The biggest feature they added to this game was local co-op which is huge and that means more chaos and more fun which I'm down for. Looking forward to seeing how this DLC will turn out once it's released in two months.

Tenjutsu is an action roguelike game developed by Deepnight Games and published by Devolver Digital. The game is set to be released on PC in the future.

Dang, didn't expect the creators of Dead Cells to develop a new game with Devolver Digital publishing it, but here we are. This is pretty much a beat em' up in the the old retro pixel art style which I dig. This game looks to be a lot of fun and hope to see more of this game in the future.

The Talos Principle II - Road to Elysium is DLC for the puzzle adventure game developed by Croteam and published by Devolver Digital. The DLC is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on June 14, 2024.

Wow, glad to see that this game is getting DLC which is quite awesome as there's three parts to the DLC. Each part have different puzzles along with different challenges and difficulties in each one. Really liking the new additions that the game is adding and looking forward to trying the DLC out once it's released next week.

Possessor(s) is an action-adventure game developed by Heart Machine and published by Devolver Digital. The game is set to be released on PC in 2025.

Wow, the developers of Hyper Light and Solar Ash are making another game and it looks great. Once again, the art style for this game looks great and the gameplay looks to be very smooth as well. Really hope to see more of this game in the future once it's released next year.

Overall, this was a solid presentation from Geoff Keighley and his team. Even though there weren't any big new game announcements on here, the trailers that we got for games we already knew about looked great, and the fact that we got some surprises in terms of new games and DLC is nice as well. The Day of the Devs as well as Devolver Digital also have some great highlights as well showcasing indie games greatly at its fullest which is appreciated. However, with E3 gone, Summer Game Fest needs to feel like the biggest gaming event of the summer and unfortunately, it didn't really feel like that. I will say that the pacing of the show is a lot better compared to past Summer Game Fest shows, but the announcements weren't there this year. Hopefully, as long as they have the pacing as well as with the great game announcements and trailers, then they're on the right path. Until then, they got ways to go, but glad to see that they're improving.
