Anime Influence: Rankings - Favorite Anime in 2024

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Anime Influence, which is similar to Gaming Influence. However, I am mainly giving my thoughts on certain anime and anime series with some fun mix of anime-related content here.

For this edition of Anime Influence, I'll be ranking my favorite anime in 2024.

Before I start, I will only be ranking anime that was released in 2024 which includes the beginning of the year to the end of the year as well as anime that have episodes in 2024. That means if the anime started before 2024, but has episodes in 2024 that are still ongoing, that will qualify. In addition, if the anime started in 2024, but it's still ongoing, that will also qualify. Also, these rankings will not include movies, OVAs, or specials as I considered them separate. Finally, if your favorite anime of 2024 didn't make it on my rankings, that doesn't mean I hate that anime, it just means I haven't watched it or have no interest in it so keep that in mind.

Anyway, let's get started!

Before I start my actual rankings if you want to see my favorite anime of last year, check out the link here: Anime Influence: Rankings - Favorite Anime in 2023

Here are some honorable mentions that I enjoyed, but didn't make it on the list:

Honorable Mentions: Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, Negative Positive Angler, Dragon Ball Daima, Bartender: Glass of God, Mashle: Magic and Muscles The Divine Visionary Candidate Exam Arc, Wind Breaker, Tonbo!, Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season, The Dangers in My Heart Season 2, Go! Go! Loser Ranger!, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3, The Witch and The Beast, Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!, Mission: Yozakura Family, Atri: My Dear Moments, Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night, Classroom of the Elite III, The Elusive Samurai

Anyway, let's start with my #20 favorite anime in 2024:

Karasu wa Aruji wo Erabanai or Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese novel series written by Chisato Abe. It was created by Pierrot and it aired from April 6, 2024, to September 21, 2024.

I never had a chance to read the novel series myself, but after hearing reviews from friends and people who watched this anime, I decided to give it a chance and it's quite good for what it is. The series reminds me of The Apothecary Diaries in terms of intrigue in the story and well-written characters. Unlike The Apothecary Diaries, it's also more serious so if you're into those types of mysteries, I recommend checking out the anime and, because of that, going to read the novels due to the anime.

Here's my #19 favorite anime in 2024:

The Fable is an anime based off of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Katsuhisa Minami. It was created by Tezuka Productions and it aired from April 7, 2024, to September 29, 2024.

I have read a bit of the manga series on what this anime is based on but never had a chance to finish it. Though, after watching the anime, would probably go back to read the manga as this anime was well done in my opinion. It's one of those shows where it has a great combination of comedy with intense epic moments. If you're into comedy, would recommend checking this anime out.

Here's my #18 favorite anime in 2024:

Make Heroine ga Oosugiru! or Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese light novel series written by Takibi Amamori and illustrated by Imigimuru. It was created by A1-Pictures and it aired from July 14, 2024, to September 29, 2024.

This is another anime that I got recommended by friends and I've seen people online talk about it a bit. I never read the light novels for it, but after watching the anime, would probably read them as I really enjoy the anime as a whole. Really love the characters in the anime as they're well-developed and well-written throughout the entire season and the dynamic between them is great to see. Would definitely give this anime a try if you're into romance comedies.

Here's my #17 favorite anime in 2024:

Ranma ½ is an anime based off of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi. It was created by MAPPA and it aired from October 6, 2024, to December 22, 2024.

I loved Ranma ½ when I was growing up as this series is one of those childhood anime shows. When I heard that they were doing a reboot for it, I had to watch it and luckily, it still has the charm of what I love from the original and it's great. With the Ranma ½ manga finally finished, they can adapt the missing arcs that weren't in the original anime and that makes me excited. Hope this reboot does well overall so we can get more.

Here's my #16 favorite anime in 2024:

Girls Band Cry is an original Japanese anime television series created and produced by Toei Animation. It aired from April 6, 2024, to June 29, 2024.

This was another anime that was recommended to me by friends and I see people online talking about it too so I had to see what it was about and I enjoyed it a lot. It has a great mixture of drama, music, and heartfelt moments that really pull you in with the characters and their passion for music as a whole. I also really love the music in this anime as well. If you're into dramas, would recommend checking this anime out.

Here's my #15 favorite anime in 2024:

One Piece is an anime based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda as it was created by Toei Animation, it aired on October 20, 1999, and it is still ongoing.

Yep, it's one of the most popular shōnen anime out there that is still ongoing right now and One Piece this year in terms of the anime wasn't the best in my opinion. For the most part this year with the One Piece anime, it was mainly filler, but at least it was good entertaining filler in some cases. However, there's a big chance that One Piece will do well next year when it comes to anime, but we'll see.

Here's my #14 favorite anime in 2024:

Kingdom 5th Season or Kingdom Season 5 in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yaushisa Hara. It was created by Pierrot and Studio Signpost where it aired from January 14, 2024, to March 31, 2024.

Kingdom generally delivers when it comes to anime just like with the manga and Season 5 of Kingdom was no different. Season 5 of Kingdom covered the Koku You Campaign Arc and I feel like they adapted that arc pretty well. The action scenes were intense and it definitely had a lot of great moments in it as well. If you're a fan of Kingdom, you'll definitely enjoy Kingdom Season 5.

Here's my #13 favorite anime in 2024:

Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hashira Geiko-hen or Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Hashira Training Arc in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotogue. It was created by ufotable and it aired from May 12, 2024, to June 30, 2024.

Despite what people say about Demon Slayer, I still enjoy the series for what it is, and every season of Demon Slayer so far has been great. The animation continues to be the best part of this anime and the character development has been well done too especially with Tanjiro as he continues to grow as a character in the anime. Even though the Hashira Training Arc wasn't the best out of this series, it's still great in terms of animation and character development for Tanjiro so I enjoyed it.

Here's my #12 favorite anime in 2024:

Bleach: Sennen Kessen-hen - Soukoku-tan or Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Conflict in the West is an anime based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tite Kubo. It was created by Pierrot and it aired from October 5, 2024, to December 28, 2024.

Bleach has made a comeback in terms of anime with the Thousand-Year Blood War arc and it has been amazing. In the manga, the Thousand-Year Blood War arc had a lot of pacing issues, but with the anime, they picked it up while still staying true to the source material which I appreciate. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Conflict continues that with the story reaching its climax and the fights in this part were incredible to watch. Looking forward to the next part of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War when it comes out.

Here's my #11 favorite anime in 2024:

Boku no Hero Academia 7th Season or My Hero Academia Season 7 in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese superhero manga series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi. It was created by Bones and it aired from May 4, 2024, to October 12, 2024.

My Hero Academia Season 7 covered the Star and Stripe Arc and the U.A. Traitor Arc which is a part of the Final Act Saga as this season delivered in that aspect. They had very climatic moments in this season and they were also very emotional and impactful. Looking forward to the final season of My Hero Academia which will cover the Final War Arc which should be interesting to see.

Now, we're in the top ten. Here's my #10 favorite anime in 2024:

Hibike! Euphonium 3 or Sound! Euphonium 3 in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese light novel series written by Ayano Takeda. It was created by Kyoto Animation and aired from April 7, 2024, to June 30, 2024.

I've been a fan of this series for quite a while and am glad to see the final season for the series as the novel series finished five years ago and it delivered big time. All of the events leading up to the finale were done tremendously and it was definitely emotional to watch and experience. The music was also beautifully done as well. If you're into music, would definitely check out the Sound! Euphonium series and watched it from the beginning, you won't regret it.

Here's my #9 favorite anime in 2024:

Yubisaki to Renren or A Sign of Affection in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by suu Morishita. It was created by Ajia-do Animation Works and it aired from January 6, 2024, to March 23, 2024.

The anime for this manga series has been pretty well done in my opinion as I enjoyed the first season of this. I feel like the animation was done pretty well and the voice acting was done greatly as it fit the characters' personalities. They pretty much adapated the original source material from the manga quite well in this anime which is great to see. If you're into romance, would recommend checking this series out and give the anime a watch.

Here's my #8 favorite anime in 2024:

Ao no Hako or Blue Box in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kouji Miura. It was created by TMS Entertainment and Telecom Animation Film and it aired on October 3, 2024, and it's still ongoing.

I've been a fan of this manga series for quite a while now so when I saw the news about an anime adaptation for it, I was excited, and it delivered for me. I love badminton so in a way, I can relate to this series in some way in terms of loving the sport, and adding a romance side to it as well is also a nice touch too. I feel they nailed it in terms of animation and production so hands off to TMS Entertainment and Telecom Animation Film. I hope they can keep it up as it's still going on at this time.

Here's my #7 favorite anime in 2024:

Kaijuu 8-gou or Kaiju No. 8 in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoya Matsumoto. It was created by Production I.G and it aired from April 13, 2024, to June 28, 2024.

This was one of my most anticipated anime to watch this year and it delivered on that front as I feel like Production I.G did the series justice. They really made the action sequences look amazing here and the animation is quite impressive as well. Really looking forward to the second season of the anime whenever it comes out and this is a pretty good start for the series in anime form as a whole.

Here's my #6 favorite anime in 2024:

Oshi no Ko 2nd Season or Oshi no Ko Season 2 in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It was created by Doga Kobo and it aired from July 3, 2024, to October 6, 2024.

Even though my feelings for Oshi no Ko have dropped a bit with the manga ending, I can't deny that the anime still delivers and the second season did just that. It still hits the emotional moments when done right and I still think it's one of the best anime dramas out there currently. I would say that the second season is a bit better compared to the first season, but would still recommend watching it if you're into anime dramas so give it a watch.

Now, we're in the top five. Here's my #5 favorite anime in 2024:

Dungeon Meshi or Delicious in Dungeon in the West is an anime based off of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Ryoko Kui. It was created by Trigger and aired from January 4, 2024, to June 13, 2024.

From what I remembered from the manga, it's an enjoyable manga that is filled with comedy and has a big setting on food so similar to Food Wars in a way, but in a fantasy setting. After watching the anime, I got back into reading the manga again as I feel like the anime did a great job bringing this series to life. As of now, they are pretty much adapting the original source material from the manga which is great to see and I have a feeling that it could reach more people down the line due to the anime. Hope it does too as it's great for me to get back into the series with the manga and looking forward to the second season of the anime once it happens.

Here's my #4 favorite anime in 2024:

Kusuriya no Hitorigoto or The Apothecary Diaries in the West is an anime based on the Japanese manga series written by Natsu Hyūga and illustrated by Touko Shino. It was created by OLM and TOHO animation STUDIO as it aired from October 22, 2023, to March 24, 2024.

As I mentioned last year, the manga is pretty good and the anime pretty much adapted the manga quite well as it's incredible to see. It still has great character development and the art style is beautiful to look at just like they did with the first half in late 2023. The rest of the episodes in the second half in early 2024 were also done well and I can't wait to watch the second season of it which should be awesome.

Here's my #3 favorite anime in 2024:

Ore dake Level Up na Ken or Solo Leveling in the West is an anime based off of the South Korean portal fantasy web novel written by Chugong. It was created by A1-Pictures and it aired from January 7, 2024, to March 31, 2024.

Solo Leveling is one of my favorite manhwa. Originally, this anime was supposed to come out last year, but they delayed it to improve it, and I believe it was for the better. The history and track record of anime adapting manhwa haven't been great, but this adaption of Solo Leveling has been done well and this is a perfect example of how to adapt a manhwa in anime form. The pacing is pretty good for the most part and they followed the source material from the manhwa greatly as well which makes me happy. Looking forward to the second season and hope that A1-Pictures keeps it up with it.

Here's my #2 favorite anime in 2024:

Sousou no Frieren or Frieren: Beyond Journey's End in the West is an anime based on the Japanese manga series written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukaba Abe. It was created by Madhouse and aired from September 29, 2023, to March 22, 2024.

As I mentioned last year, I really love the manga of this series and the anime adaptation of it didn't disappoint one bit. From beginning to end, it has beautiful animation, great voice acting, and an enjoyable soundtrack to listen to with the adventure that Frieren and her party have gone through. I'm really glad that Madhouse delivered in this series in anime form and I'm looking forward to the second season when the time comes.

Now, here's my #1 favorite anime in 2024:

Dandadan is an anime based off of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu. It was created by Science Sura and aired from October 4, 2024, to December 19, 2024.

The anime adaption of Dandadan had a lot of potential leading to its debut and after watching it, I believe it exceeded my expectations and even more than I realized. Science Sura did a great job of bringing this series to life as they adapted the original source material from the manga pretty well. They nailed the characters and mixed the comedy with intense moments in the series as they meshed together perfectly. Very happy that the series is growing because of this anime and it's my personal number one favorite anime of 2024.

Those are my favorite anime in 2024.
