Gaming Influence: Rankings - Most Anticipated Video Games in 2025

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence, a reboot of the same name I created in WrestleCorp. However, I will not only be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series but also on video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll be ranking my most anticipated video games in 2025.

Before I start, my rankings will only be based on games that are announced that are going to be released in 2025 which include new original games, remakes, remasters, and ports with additional content that wasn't in the original game. My rankings will not include re-releases on other consoles as well as DLC (Ex. Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker, DAVE THE DIVER: In The Jungle). In addition, if any games in 2025 aren't listed on my rankings, it just means I have no interest in it or forgot about it so keep that in mind.

Anyway, let's get started!

Before I start my actual rankings if you want to see my most anticipated video games of last year, check out the link here: Gaming Influence: Rankings - Most Anticipated Video Games in 2024

Here are some honorable mentions that I enjoyed, but didn't make it on the list:

Honorable Mentions: Avowed, Ballad of Antara, CUFFBUST, Sid Meier's Civilization VII, Winter Burrow, Mecha BREAK, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers, MIO: Memories in Orbit, The Hundred Line - Last Defense Academy, Begone Beast, Borderlands 4, Kingdom Come Deliverance II, Herdling, The First Berserker: Khazan, Floatopia, Coffee Talk Tokyo, MORSELS, Cuisineer, Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX, Star Overdrive, Suikoden I & II HD Remaster, Tales of Graces f Remastered, ArcheAge Chronicles, LUNAR Remastered Collection, Tales of the Shire: A Lord of The Rings Game, REMATCH, Solasta II, The Outer Worlds 2, Split Fiction, Double Dragon Revive, Mafia: The Old Country, Dispatch, Crimson Desert, Phantom Brave The Lost Hero, South of Midnight, Fable

Now, let's start with my #20 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is a platformer developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo. It will be released on Switch on January 16, 2025.

I loved this game back on the Wii, so seeing an HD version of it is great. Granted, I want a new original Donkey Kong Country game, as we haven’t gotten one since Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze back in 2014 on Wii U, but I’ll take what I can get. I'm looking forward to replaying this game within a few weeks.

Here's my #19 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Split Fiction is an action-adventure game developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts. It will be released on March 6, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

I was a fan of It Takes Two, as it was a fun co-op game to play with family and friends, so it's great to see that Hazelight Studios is making another game of that caliber. Just like with It Takes Two, Split Fiction is also a co-op game where it feels like a lot is happening at once in terms of different gameplay styles and genres, which I’m totally down for. I'm looking forward to trying out this game when it comes out in two months.

Here's my #18 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Shadow Labyrinth is a 2D action platformer developed and published by Bandai Namco. The game is set to be released on PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2025.

If you had told me that Bandai Namco would make a Metroidvania with PAC-MAN as the partner, I would have called you crazy. However, this game is real and it looks incredible. Never thought that PAC-MAN would have a dark and edgy side to him, but here we are! Looking forward to trying out this game when it comes out this year.

Here's my #17 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Assassin's Creed Shadows is an action role-playing game developed and published by Ubisoft. It is set to be released on February 14, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Even though I feel like Ubisoft has oversaturated Assassin’s Creed franchise, I can’t deny that I have a lot of interest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Originally, this game was supposed to be released back in November of last year, but got delayed so the fact that they are delaying the game shows that they want this game to succeed which makes me hopeful. Also, the fact that the game takes place in Japan alone caught my interest, and love the design of the characters as well. Hope this game turns out well and looking forward to playing it next month.

Here's my #16 most anticipated video game in 2025:

DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS is a hack-and-slash game developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo. The game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on January 17, 2025.

I’ve always been a fan of the Dynasty Warriors games and with DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS, it looks to be no different. Played the demo of the game and it’s a lot of fun. With this game being the origin story of the Dynasty Warriors franchise, very curious to see how the story will play out. Looking forward to playing the full game within a few weeks.

Here's my #15 most anticipated video game in 2025:

DOOM: The Dark Ages is a first-person shooter developed by id Software and published by Bethesda. It will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2025.

Despite not being a huge fan of first-person shooters, there are a few franchises within this genre that I do enjoy and DOOM is one of them. DOOM: The Dark Ages taking place in ancient times is something I'm really interested in and the gameplay looks to be a lot of fun. Hope to see more of this game later this year and I'm looking forward to playing it.

Here's my #14 most anticipated video game in 2025:

DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake is a role-playing game collection developed and published by Square Enix. The game was released on PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2025.

When they announced that DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake was in development, I had a feeling that DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake was coming as well, and I was right! Even though DRAGON QUEST I & II aren’t great compared to DRAGON QUEST III, in my opinion, they’re still good games in their own right, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they’ll be remade when they’re released this year.

Here's my #13 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is a fantasy role-playing social simulation game developed and published by Marvelous where the game is set to be released on Switch and PC in Spring 2025.

I’ve always been a fan of the Rune Factory series as it combines a farming simulator and an RPG into one. However, with Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, they’re taking the series in a whole new direction as it looks to be a reimagining of the series which is quite interesting. We’ll see how this game will turn out once it’s released this spring.

Here's my #12 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a dark fantasy role-playing game developed by Sandfall Interactive and published by Kepler Interactive. It will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2025.

Even though I do like Western RPGs, I love JRPGs more. However, when I saw that this game is a Western RPG that has combat and gameplay like a turn-based JRPG it was wild to me, but I loved it for it. The UI for the battle combat in the game looks like the UI you would see in Atlus JRPGs like Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio which is very colorful and stylish. Hope to see more of this game in the future when it comes out this year.

Here's my #11 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land is a role-playing game developed by Gust and published by Koei Tecmo. The game is set to be released on PS5, Switch, PS4, Xbox Series X, PC, and Xbox One on March 21, 2025.

I’m a fan of the Atelier series and it looks like they have another new Atelier game with a different protagonist as it looks amazing. I feel like they really gave Atelier a big budget as it looks a lot better compared to the latest Atelier series with Atelier Ryza which I thought looks good. Also, Yumia is looking great as the protagonist for the game, and looking forward to playing it once it’s released in two months.

Now, we're in the top ten. Here's my #10 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition is an action role-playing game developed by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo. The game is set to be released on Switch on March 20, 2025.

Xenoblade Chronicles is currently my #1 favorite JRPG series and despite already playing Xenoblade Chronicles X back on the Wii U, I’m glad to see this game on a console that is selling like the Switch so more people can play it as it’s amazing in its own way compared to the mainline Xenoblade Chronicles games. Plus, this game will have additional content like having a new story that wasn’t in the original as that got me hyped. Can’t wait to play this game again in two months.

Here's my #9 most anticipated video game in 2025:

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky 1st is a role-playing game developed and published by Nihon Falcom where the game is set to be released on Switch, PS5, and PC in Fall 2025.

I’ve always been a fan of the Trails series and I never thought we would get a remake of the first game, but here we are! For those who are intimidated to start the series due to them being long and having so many entries, start with this game in the series. Looking forward to replaying it in remake form as it comes out this fall.

Here's my #8 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is a fighting game developed and published by SNK where the game is set to be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and PC on April 21, 2025.

It has been twenty-six years since the last new original Fatal Fury game and we’re finally to get a new one after so long as it looks great. Love the art style of this game and the gameplay looks to be fun as well. Glad to see Fatal Fury back and can’t wait to play the game once it comes out in three months.

Here's my #7 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is an action role-playing game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo where the game is set to be released on Switch in 2025.

Even though the game wasn’t perfect, I loved Pokémon Legends: Arceus as they were doing something different with the Pokémon franchise as it delivered and it was fun. Getting to explore the worlds of Pokémon in the past is great and with the Pokémon Trainer being more involved in the action is quite cool as well. Very curious to see how Kalos will be in the past and hope to see more of it later this year.

Here's my #6 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is an action-adventure game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is set to be released on PS5 in 2025.

Even though I prefer the Metal Gear Solid series from Hideo Kojima, Death Stranding is amazing in its own right. Hideo Kojima is at his best when it comes to cinematic and storytelling in video games and it looks like it’ll continue with Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. I can’t wait to see how the story will go on from here and I can’t wait to see more later this year.

Now, we're in the top five. Here's my #5 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Grand Theft Auto VI is an action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games where the game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2025.

What else do I need to say about this? It’s Grand Theft Auto. Even though I’m not a huge fan of the series, I can’t deny that it's a lot of fun and will cause a lot of chaos in a good way. Plus, it’s been twelve years since Grand Theft Auto V, so it’s time for a new game in the series. I can’t wait to see more of it and play it once it comes out later this year.

Here's my #4 most anticipated video game in 2025:

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco. It will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2025.

I never expected that we get another Elden Ring game after we got Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree last year, but here we are! The fact that this game looks to be Monster Hunter in the Elden Ring is awesome to me as it should be a fun co-op game with friends and people online. Looking forward to playing this game as it comes out later this year.

Here's my #3 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Ghost of Yōtei is an action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is set to be released on PS5 in 2025.

Ghost of Tsushima was one of my favorite games in 2020 so it’s great to see that we get to see a sequel of this game five years later. This game looks to take place in Yōtei and that the protagonist is female is quite interesting. Hope to see more of this game soon as it comes out later this year.

Here's my #2 most anticipated video game in 2025:

MONSTER HUNTER WILDS is an action role-playing game developed and published by Capcom where it will be released on PS5 Xbox Series X, and PC on February 28, 2025.

I’ve always been a fan of the Monster Hunter series and MONSTER HUNTER WILDS is looking incredible so far. Really love the monster designs that they showcased here and the gameplay looks to be fun as always. Looking forward to playing this game myself as it comes out in a month.

Now, here's my #1 most anticipated video game in 2025:

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is an action-adventure game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo where the game will be released on Switch in 2025.

It has been eighteen years since the last new original mainline Metroid Prime game, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, which was released on Wii in 2007. That’s insanity, but after all of that time, we’re finally getting it as it looks incredible thus far. From what we’ve seen so far, it’s Metroid Prime that we love, and curious to see how the final product will turn out as it’ll release later this year.

Those are my most anticipated video games in 2025.
