Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023

Hello everyone,

Welcome to Gaming Influence, a reboot of the same name I created in WrestleCorp. However, not only will I be giving my thoughts on certain video games and video game series, but also video game movies, video game anime, video game digital presentations, etc.

For this edition of Gaming Influence, I'll be giving my thoughts on Gamescom Opening Night Live which happened on August 22, 2023.

Before I start, not every game that was shown in this presentation will be talked about as I will mainly talk about games that I care about and am interested in. If the games you care about and are interested in don't show up here, don't take it personally, have nothing against the games, but they're not just for me or it's just that I don't have much to say about them except cool. However, if you are happy with the games that you care about and are interested in I'm not or have nothing to say about it, good for you and I'm happy for you.

Anyway, let's get started!

For those who are wondering, what is Gamescom Opening Night Live? Well, to get more details on what Gamescom Opening Night Live is, you can check out this article/editorial right here: Gaming Influence: Thoughts - Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022.

With that out of the way, let's get to it!

Streets of Rogue 2 is a cray immersive role-playing sandbox game developed by Matt Dabrowski and published by tinyBuild. The game is set to be released on PC in 2024.

Man, I remember enjoying the first Streets of Rogue game so glad to see a sequel of this game as it's looking to improve everything that was in the first game which is awesome to see. Love the variety that they showcased in this trailer and looking forward to seeing more of it when it comes out next year.

Mandragora is a 2.5D side-scroller action role-playing game developed by Primal Game Studio and published by Marvelous Europe. The game is set to be released on PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X, and PC in 2024.

This game looks pretty cool as it's a mix of Castlevania with action combat which I'm totally down for. Really enjoy the art style of the game as well as the combat so hope to see more of this game in the future when it comes out next year.

Lynsfanga: The Time Shift Warrior is an action game developed by Sand Door Studio and published by Quantic Dream. The game is set to be released on PC in early 2024.

We saw this game earlier this year at Summer Game Fest which had my interest and the game is still really pretty good to me as the gameplay just reminds me of Hades so much which I enjoy. This game has the potential to be great and hope to see more of it when it comes out early next year.

Fae Farm is a farm simulation game developed and published by Phoenix Labs. The game will be released on Switch and PC on September 8, 2023.

We've been seeing a lot of advertisements for this game since last year and we got another pretty good-looking trailer for the game as it continues to be a fun relaxing farm simulation game like mixing Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons and Animal Crossing into one which should be great. Looking forward to trying this game out when it comes out in a few weeks.

Homeworld 3 is a real-time strategy game developed by Blackbird Interactive and published by Gearbox. The game is set to be released on PC in February 2024.

We have also seen this game for a bit, but not as often. However, it looks like we finally got a release window for the game after so long which is great to see. We mainly got a story trailer here and not much gameplay unfortunately, but this game could be good. Hope to see more of it down the line when it comes out early next year.

Starfield is an action role-playing game developed and published by Bethesda where the game is set to be released on Xbox Series X and PC on September 6, 2023.

The trailer that they've shown is more of a story trailer rather than a gameplay trailer which is fine as we got a bunch of gameplay with that Starfield Direct at the Xbox Games Showcase two months ago. The story continues to be interesting and this could be a really great game from Bethesda. We'll see if they'll be able to deliver when it comes out in a few weeks.

Little Nightmares III is a puzzle-platform game developed by Tarsier Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is set to be released on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and Switch in 2024.

Glad to see that this game getting a sequel as these games are generally fun with their puzzle challenges as well as their horror in some cases as well. This looks to be another fun adventure in this series and looking forward to seeing how this game will turn out when it releases next year.

Black Myth: Wukong is an action role-playing game developed and published by Game Science, and at this time, there is no official release date as well as what consoles the game will be on.

My friend showed me this game before a few years ago and I was astonishly impressed with how the game looks and runs. The game continues to impress with its unique art style and its action combat which looks like a lot of fun to play. Hope to see more of this game in the future and looking forward to seeing what else the game has in store.

Crimson Desert is an action role-playing game developed and published by Pearl Abyss, and at this time, there's no official release date as well as what consoles it will be on.

We've seen footage and gameplay of this game for quite a while now and every time I see more of this game, I continue to be impressed by it. The graphics look incredible and the gameplay looks to be a lot of fun with its combat. Also, love the environments as they look beautiful and it seems to be an open world as well since the player was exploring a huge open area. Definitely want to see more of this as it has the potential to be really good.

Payday 3 is a first-person shooter developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by Deep Silver. The game is set to be released on PC, Xbox Series X, and PS5, on September 21, 2023.

We saw this game on the Xbox Games Showcase two months ago and we got new footage here as the gameplay continues to be what it is for the franchise which is great to see. The story seems to be interesting as well so we'll see how this game will turn out once it's out next month.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game developed and published by Ubisoft, and the game is set to be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC, on October 5, 2023.

We have seen footage of this game numerous times now ever since it was revealed and this to me, looks to be the Assassin's Creed game that might be going back to its roots of what makes Assassin's Creed special in the first place. I like how the game is taking place in the Middle East and the combat looks to be the classic Assassin's Creed games and not the ones from recent Assassin's Creed games. We'll see how this game will turn out when it's released in two months.

Tekken 8 is a fighting game developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, and the game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, on January 26, 2024.

Yes! We finally got a release date for the game as it'll be coming out early next year. It looks like we'll get a new saga for Tekken especially with Heihachi no longer being there due to the passing of his voice actor so I'm interested to see where they go from here. In addition, they got a new single-player mode with Arcade Quest where it's basically a social hub similar to Street Fighter 6 so that's awesome. Looking forward to seeing how this new era of Tekken will be and looking forward to playing it early next year.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink is an action role-playing game developed and published by Cygames, and the game is set to be released on PS5, PS4, and PC, on February 1, 2024.

We saw this game back at the PlayStation Showcase three months ago and great to see that this game will finally get a release date as the game will be coming out in early 2024. Early 2024 is so far a big year for JRPGs and I'm there for it as this game looks to be great and hope to see more of it soon when it comes out early next year.

Immortals of Aveum is a first-person shooter developed by Ascendant Studios and published by Electronic Arts. The game is currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

We've seen footage of this game ever since its reveal back in the PlayStation Showcase three months ago and it's finally out. So far, I've heard that it's pretty a solid game from reviews so I'm interested in trying out the game once I get the chance and hope that it's actually good when I try it for myself.

Zenless Zone Zero is a free-to-play urban fantasy action role-playing game developed and published by miHoYo. The game has yet to have a release date and no consoles were confirmed for the game at this time.

The last time we saw this game was back in Summer Game Fest two years ago and I really love the style of this game as miHoYo has been doing well with these types of games I appreciate it. I think it's going to be a while until this game comes out, but I do expect it to be good, and looking forward to this game once it's released.

Honkai Star Rail is a role-playing gacha game developed and published by miHoYo. The game is set to be released on PS5 with an unannounced release date.

Despite not having an actual release date for the game yet, the fact that it's getting a beta is quite cool as they're testing the waters to see how the game runs on the console. Either way, if you haven't played this game yet and enjoy turn-based RPGs mixed with Genshin Impact, this is the game for you. Looking forward to the PS5 release of the game when it happens.

The Lords of the Fallen is an action role-playing game developed by HEXWORKS and published by CI Games. The game is set to be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, on October 13, 2023.

We also have seen this game numerous times in the past as it continues to look like Dark Souls which isn't a bad thing as it looks like they're taking this game in a new direction from the original game as this game is basically a reboot. We'll see how this reboot will turn out and looking forward to trying it out when it's released in two months.

Sonic Superstars is a platformer developed by the Sonic Team and published by Sega. The game is set to be released on Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC, on October 17, 2023.

We've seen footage of this game back at Summer Game Fest two months ago and now, we finally got a release date for the game as it'll be released in two months. Dang, October is going to be a stacked month, but definitely excited for this game as it's definitely clicking with me so far and has the potential to be a great Sonic game. Plus, the battle mode that they add to this game looks to be a lot of fun as well especially fighting with robots. Looking forward to playing it in two months.

Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon is DLC for the platformer developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. The update will be released for free on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, on September 28, 2023.

This is the DLC that I've been waiting for this game and man, this has the potential to be really interesting as this DLC will contain a new story, new playable characters with Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, and new challenges as well. Plus, it looks like Sonic has a new form when gaining all of the Chaos Emeralds as that's definitely not Super Sonic so I'm curious to see what this new form for Sonic is. Either way, looking forward to seeing how this will play out when it's released next month.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is an expansion for the open-world action-adventure role-playing game developed and published by CD Projekt, and the expansion will be released on PC, Xbox Series X, and PS5, on September 26, 2023.

Man, it's impressive how much the game has improved when it's first launched which wasn't great at all. Now, the main game is a lot better, and the expansion they showed here looks to be a lot of fun. I'm very interested to see how this expansion will do once it comes out next month.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is a mecha-based vehicular combat game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game is set to be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, and Xbox One, on August 25, 2023.

When we first saw the announcement for this game back in the Game Awards last year, I was shocked as I never thought that Armored Core would ever come back, but here we are and this new trailer looks amazing. Great to see Armored Core back and the fact that we don't have to wait long as it's out this week makes it even better. Looking forward to trying the game out once I get the chance.

Mortal Kombat 1 is a fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Games. The game is set to be released on Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, on September 19, 2023.

Every time we get a new trailer for this game, I continue to be impressed by this game with its gameplay and graphics. The fatalities in this game look brutal as we also got more characters coming to the game which is awesome. Looking forward to this game on how it turns out when it's released in a few weeks.

Ara: History Untold is a turn-based grand strategy game developed by Oxide Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. The game is set to be released on Xbox Series X in 2024.

This game looks to be a huge strategy game similar to Age of Empires in a way in terms of making a civilization, having resources to grow that civilization, and fighting other civilizations to expand and grow your civilization. This game seems different enough compared to Age of Empires that it should be able to hold on its own. Hope to see more of this game down the line when it comes out next year.

Diablo IV: Season of Blood is the next season for the online-only action role-playing game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The new season will be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC, on October 17, 2023.

Cool to see that the next season for the game has been announced as they're looking to add some new content into the game which is great to see. They're looking to add more boss fights as well as improve the loot from defeating enemies which is a great thing. Glad to see that this game will keep getting support down the line and looking forward to seeing how this season will turn out when it's released in two months.

Dustborn is a single-player, story-driven action-adventure game developed by Red Thread Games and published by Quantic Dream. The game is set to be released on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC in early 2024.

I really like the art style of this game and the story seems to be quite interesting as the protagonist will say something to other characters which will either create peace or chaos among other characters as I find that fascinating. The combat looks to be fun as it looks to be a beat 'em up to me which I'm totally down. Hope to see more of this game soon when it comes out early next year.

Alan Wake II is a survival horror game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing. The game is set to be released on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, on October 17, 2023.

We've seen multiple trailers for this game now, but glad to see a new trailer for the game involving the main protagonist of the game, Alan Wake, which looks to be quite interesting from a story standpoint. It's been over a decade since we got a new game from this series and glad to see that it's going to be out in two months. Looking forward to it when it's released.

Overall, this was a good presentation for Gamescom Opening Night Live this year. Even though I feel like there are still some pacing issues with the show, it's definitely a lot better compared to last year as I feel like the Gamescom Opening Night Live shows continue to get better each year which is a good thing. I feel like the interviews that Geoff Keighley with the developers of the game are around the right time and not too long in most cases which I appreciate, but still needs to be worked on in some cases. The piano performance for the Starfield theme was great and nice to see Gamescom having a Green Studio of the Year Award to help the environment while producing quality video games so hands off to Xbox for their win. Finally, they really need to do something with security as this is the second time where someone that isn't a part of the show got involved which could be dangerous if those people were criminals so hope that Geoff Keighley and his team learned from this and it won't happen at Game Awards this year. Other than that, huge improvement from last year and I hope that they continue to improve from here.
